What was the worst addiction you used to struggle with? And what’s your worst addiction as of right now, if you have any?
Added a [NSFW] tag just in case. Not really sure what constitutes a question as NSFW, but I decided to be safe than sorry.

Cigarettes. It was a love/hate thing.
@kritiper Instead of cigarettes, I’m heavily addicted to vaping. That first time buzz will get you really hooked. Super glad you broke that addiction though!
Mentally and spiritually, the hardest was alcohol. Physically, the hardest was cigarettes.
@zenvelo Mentally and spiritually it’s always been drugs. After I binge, I won’t be able to think clearly for a couple weeks. Everyday would feel like a haze to me.
My only such struggle was with cigarettes. I quit in 1989. I still wish I could smoke, without being a smoker, but it doesn’t work that way.
I do have a chocolate habit, but I take longish breaks from time to time just for the discipline of it.
As for “NSFW,” as I understand it, it’s to mark things we don’t want to open with boss, coworker, or possibly others (kids, spouses) nearby. And the idea is to put the NSFW portion discreetly inside and not display it in the subject line.
I don’t think your subject itself is NSFW, but it’s good to be cautious.
@Jeruba Thank you for letting me know!
@catar I’m sorry, but in this instance @Jeruba is wrong. The NSFW tag definitely belongs in the subject line. I often look at Fluther at work, and I’m grateful for that tag that keeps me safe. The IT department at my work doesn’t need to know that I might like to look at a subject that has adult content.
I’m sober. At one point, I drank too much daily. Quitting cigarettes was harder, and like @Jeruba, I wish I could still smoke without all the nasty side effects like a horrible death.
@Hawaii_Jake Have you considered vaping? There’s nicotine-less vaping products (even electronic cigarette look-alikes) that you can buy to imitate the act of smoking, without most of the side effects (I say most because, well, the side effects of vaping are still yet to be truly studied.)
But that’s only if you would like to start a smoking habit again, which I would advise against. Best way to keep your lungs healthy is not have anything inside them in the first place. Besides oxygen, of course.
Drugs – 15 yrs or so
Alcohol – 30 yrs
Cigs – 42 yrs
Sweets – since I can remember; not as addictive though
@catar, if someone doesn’t smoke, why would you advocate vaping??
@smudges Edited my reply to try not make it seem like I was advocating for it. Meant to add it in the first place. My bad. I only said that as they said they wished they could still smoke without all the nasty side effects.
I’m struggling with adolescence and it is getting harder to beat. With my other issues it makes it so much tougher to deal with. I wish there was a pill I could take to make it go away.
@Hawaii_Jake, what a terrible job I did in making my comment. Sorry. When I said to put the NSFW portion discreetly Inside, I didn’t mean the “NSFW” tag itself. The tag definitiely goes on the outside, in the subject line.
By “NSFW portion” I meant the actual content that is not safe. For example, if you wanted to ask “When you see an attractive man, do you want to cover him with peanut butter?” you might put something like ”[NSFW] Does peanut butter have a special appeal for you?” in the subject line and save the particulars for the inside.
Do you agree?
@RayaHope You have an addiction to adolescence?
I’m not addicted to my adolescence. It was one bad period of time in my life. I had no friend and the friends that I had turned out to be toxic. I was also too dumb to make good decision. I’m much more addicted to adulthood ~
Wordle
I am very fortunate.
I was addicted to video games since grade school. I would play all night and skip school to sleep. I skipped 88 days of school in grade 7.
It went to rock bottom when I bought $250 worth of useless crap from the video game online store. ( Buffs, powerups, ect) in 2007
I drank too much and too often throughout my twenties without even realising it. It was only after starting a family that I became mostly T-total. I then realised what a slippery slope I had been on. I still enjoy the occasional pint but I no longer like the experience of being drunk and I’m not sure I could survive a hangover.
@Jeruba Yes, I understand with the further explanation, and I agree with you.
Oxygen. I am more addicted than I ever realized.
Years ago I was addicted to caffeine in the form of coca-cola. It’s still fabulous when I cheat and have some, which is very rare.
Now, my addictions are Facebook, fluther, and food, but using the word addiction is too strong. When I’m otherwise occupied I don’t care that I haven’t checked my Facebook or fluther.
Food, well, maybe it is an addiction. I’m having a hard time the last five years getting in track to eat better and eat less.
Food. I love to cook and have people enjoy it together.
Now I cook and taste but that’s it, and especially sweets, we take to others asap so the temptation is gone. Hopefully my fat girl nrain changes with time.
