What is your favorite Bond song?

Asked by Caravanfan (13771points) December 25th, 2022

I just finished watching the Music of 007 on Amazon. Fantastic if you’re a Bond fan. What is your favorite Bond song? Is it Live and Let Die? Or perhaps Skyfall?

Note, I’m not talking about your favorite Bond film…just the song. There have been great songs with horrible movies and vice versa.

I’d say “Live and Let Die.” Classic.

Well they’re different, but let’s see . . .

Goldfinger is I think the one, undeniably perfect, most classic Bond theme (er, besides the Bond theme itself.) I suppose it’s also my favorite.

My runners-up:
You Know My Name (from Casino Royale)
You Only Live Twice

Also close favorites:
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
The Living Daylights
Quantum of Solace

My favorite was Live & Let Die!!!
I also enjoyed Diamonds are Forever by Shirley Bassey

Another hit that was very popular when I was about 18, View to a Kill, Duran Duran. My runner up.

This one is tough because there are so many awesome choices. I think I have to go with Live & Let Die. Diamonds are Forever, and Man with the Golden Gun are also so iconic of Bond music. View to a Kill is another great one, and I can’t leave out Chris Cornell’s “You Know My Name;” he’s in the top 10 all time singer for me so I’m going to give him the runner-up despite the composition of the song being inferior to some of the others I’ve mentioned.

“Goldfinger,” performed by the wonderful, sultry Shirley Bassey. The song’s very 60s and mod.

You only live twice.

Now I’m going to answer. I love Goldfinger, but I have to say my favorites are Adelle’s Skyfall and Billie Eilish’s No Time to Die. But I am a Eilish fan and a huge Hanz Zimmer fan so I’m a bit biased.

I enjoy Skyfall, but can’t really say it is a favorite. Same with No Time To Die. I’m old enough that my 2 favs hold fond memories of my life more than the movie…one of the few perks of growing old!!! :-)

@LadyMarissa I think we can all agree though that Moonraker sucks.

@Caravanfan “we can all agree though that Moonraker sucks.”

I hope you’re still talking about the song, because the film has so many great moments.

Caravanfan's avatar

Yes. Just the song. That’s an example of a bad song fun movie Bond.

LadyMarissa's avatar

@Caravanfan It must have because I blocked it out of my memories & I love Shirley Bassey!!!

You Only Live Twice, then Goldfinger.

If you haven’t heard Johnny Cash’s attempt at a Bond song, here tis!

Top favorite would be You Only Live Twice. Love the violin, the melody, all that sentimentality. Robbie William’s song Millennium used that same melody.

Runners-up are For Your Eyes Only, Living Daylights and View to a Kill.

When I was a young teen, this song was very popular:

Nobody Does It Better, Carly Simon from The Spy Who Loved Me.

@jca2 I was humming that song today.

mazingerz88's avatar

Honorable mention btw…Never Say Never Again.

@mazingerz88 Bond purists would say that movie doesn’t count as it wasn’t an Eon productions movie, but I liked it, especially seen Sean in the role one more time.

@Caravanfan I am a huge James Bond fan, and I would accept NSNA way before I would accept some of the Roger Moore nonsense.

mazingerz88's avatar

^^Moore’s films were entertaining…when I first saw them. Now not so much.

gorillapaws's avatar

You guys are crazy. Moore’s films were so awesome. The entire premise of James Bond is inherently absurd and ridiculous. The Moore films embraced the absurdity of the concept, and celebrated it with a big wink to the audience. It’s the new stuff that’s trying to play it straight and dark (like a teenager reading poetry about death) that I find hard to watch at times.

Caravanfan's avatar

I’m with @gorillapaws on this. I love Roger Moore. In terms of acting ability Daniel Craig was clearly the best, but Roger Moore had the sarcastic wink that none of the others really mastered.

mazingerz88's avatar

Preferred the switch to grittier fight scenes. To me it began with Goldeneye. Then Craig’s movies brought it full throttle.

mazingerz88's avatar

Can’t believe I forgot to mention another favorite! The Living Daylights.

NovDel's avatar

For me, You Only Live Twice. Nancy Sinatra’s voice is amazing. She’s a better singer than her father ever was.

mazingerz88's avatar

Great lyrics.

You only live twice
One for yourself and
One for your dream

Live and Let Die.

@NoMore Shirley Bassey tells a story where for that song she had to take off her bra because it was too restrictive for the big notes.

I’m shocked,shocked I tell you!! ; ) @caravanfan
