Do you have any interest in these “alternative” biopics that Hollywood is starting to churn out?

I just recently watched “Elvis” and “Blonde” and I thought both of them were absolutely dire.
Elvis focuses on Colonel Tom Parker and treats Elvis as a supporting character in his own movie, while Blonde is a fictionalized biopic of Marilyn Monroe and only focuses on her trauma, ignoring her talents as a brilliant comedian.
Funnily enough, the completely fictional film “Tár” comes across as more of a legitimate biopic about a composer, treating her character as a historical person, going into way more depth than Elvis and Blonde.
Your thoughts?

I have no interest in biopics in general. They are pieces of propaganda, intended to feed the cult of personality of its subject, and further mythify the shared canon that the populace believes about the person.
The only exception that I have watched is “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”, because that is an intentional self-persiflage, which simultaneously mocks the typical biopic by exaggerating the fictional elements to absurdity, from his father beating up the travelling salesman that gives Al his accordion, to Al banging Madonna, and him finally turning into Rambo and gunning down Pablo Escobar and his drug cartel.
I really enjoyed Elivs despite not liking Baz Luhrman or Tom Hanks’ role in the movie. For me, Austin Butler’s portrayal of Elvis redeemed the movie and made me see Presley as much more vulnerable and appealing than I previously had. I have not seen Blonde nor do I want to.
Those movies have no interest to me at all. I know nothing of those people so seeing a movie about their lives would fall on blind eyes. Kinda by accident I started to watch that “Weird Al” show but it seemed really dumb so I turned it off.
Can only get through 15 minutes maybe of Luhrmann’s Elvis. Had to stop. Been a long while since I appreciated Baz’s style. Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge maybe. Now it’s just annoying. Add to it the use of digital cameras. Aggravating.
@mazingerz88 I know what you mean. i can’t stand his style but after the beginning it was more straight forward mainly and for me, Butler’s performance made it enjoyable.
^^That’s exactly what my friend said! I’ll continue. No rush though.
The last event-biopic I saw that will be worth revisiting for me was that Gary Oldman as Churchill movie.
Zero. I didn’t like the disaster movie fad in the 90s either. I did kind of like the Historical Epic fad, but I kind of wasn’t attending alot of movies at that time so didn’t support it much. As a longtime comic nerd, I love the superhero fad even though I’m well aware that they’re burning the public out on it very quickly (and arguably already have).
But the biopic fad is particularly annoying especially since so many…aren’t even all that accurate. Like…why make a biopic and then NOT be faithful to the person’s story. i guess the same is true of the historical epics.
