Do you believe language will be replaced by text speak one day?

We are always shortening words and using acronyms and combining multiple words into one.

We already use a lot of acronyms in our speech (NYC, NYPD, TTYL), and in our texting.

Sometimes when my daughter says “I know, right?” I say “I-K, R?” hahaha

No. Mostly because “text speak” could be considered a language on its own.

I mean our entire language was text.

I mean our entire language was text.

What, you mean we wouldn’t speak anymore? Absolutely not.

No, our complex relationships wouldn’t allow it.
Slang and text speak is a phase that uneducated young people go through. Peer pressure makes people dumb until they get older and realize following certain people makes you look bad.

I believe that at some time in humanity’s murky past the equivalent of text speak was replaced by language.

It is already evolving that way.

No, because it does not permit nuanced speech.

And, it is ephemeral. Text speak from 20 years ago is almost unintelligible for those born after 1993.

Never. That’s against the guidelines.
