Trump aide has laptop with confidential information. How did that happen and WHY?

Asked by Tropical_Willie (31487points) February 11th, 2023

Apparently one of Trump’s aides has a laptop with confidential documents on it! How did that happen and WHY? The aide had information that was restricted but was on a laptop not a hard copy document. Did any of it get to Putin, XI or Kim? What do you think happened with the document and info?

It was turned over to DOJ.

I’d say it needs to be investigated. What the information was and where it went to are pure speculation at this point. But an aide having this material, if Trump did not declassify it when he was POTUS, is a violation of the law and should be punished. If it was a Confidential document, it is the lowest classification and is likely not worth much to anyone. There are more issues that need to be looked at. If the laptop was used on an approved government server only, then it is not as big a deal because you can easily track where it went. I’d say this wasn’t an intentional thing if it was already turned over to the DoJ. The laptop could be evaluated to see if the document went anywhere and where if it did. It could also possibly be used to see where it came from which might be more interesting.

Trump probably used it as a ruse to forward the document(s) to his buddy Vladimir.

The worker was not even a government employee (they worked for one of his PACs), so that implies they didn’t have security clearance.

Was the aide selling stuff off the laptop for money to support Trump’s campaign.

Amazing we say roughly the same thing about a democrat in trouble and it’s never enough for you, we say if a crime has been committed then the person should be accountable but you want us to be as enraged as we are with your precious republicans when they are accused of a crime.

@SQUEEKY2 I assume that was pointed at me. The problem is that when a Democrat does something sketchy, the reaction is non-existent often, usually has to be pushed before it is agreed that something should be at least looked at. Before that it is called a conspiracy theory with a whole lotta WhataboutTrump thrown in.

If you notice, what I said here is pretty much the same thing I say all the time. Get the facts and deal with them. Sadly that isn’t what usually comes from the left when it comes to Trump. someone makes a claim and you guys start immediately with how many years in prison he will get for doing that crime. You skip the whole thing of gathering facts and dealing with them or you treat the accusation as proof of the crime.

I don’t cut Republicans slack for doing illegal things. I hold them all to the same level of accountability that you and I would be held to. You can see that with my answer here. Look into it. Get the facts. On the surface I’d say to hold him to the same level of accountability I said we should hold Hillary and Biden (and now Pence as well). He does not have the authority to declassify materials, he isn’t allowed to have classified materials on a random laptop…pretty much text book. I’m interested in finding out what the materials are and how they got there. Did someone send them to him? Was the laptop used previously by someone that had clearance for the Confidential material and it is legacy garbage on the laptop? These don’t excuse them being there in my mind. Turning over the laptop to the DoJ doesn’t make it okay that they were there to start with.

Apparently the digital documents were in a “Classified” folder that was retrieved from Mar-a-Lago with a subpoena ! Trump must have really really wanted those documents.
