Do the mods try to reason with trolls?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24945points) February 12th, 2023

Or do they just block and ban?
Is it ok if the normal Jellies try?
Or does it make things worse?

I suppose this would be a question for the mods. But I believe I was already accused of being a troll, for which that was NOT my intention. It was only a legitimate question or at least I thought it was. Some people get triggered so easily it’s kinda hard to not upset those fragile types you know.
Unrelated but I thought I’d post this if that’s okay? I had messaged a mod yesterday and still have not heard a reply, so I’m not sure if things are working quite right here or not?

[mod says] We do not reason with trolls, and we appreciate when you don’t, either. Not only because it encourages them to return, but also because we might then have to remove your responses, which takes away from other things we need to be doing. I know it can be so tempting to mess with them, but try to remember that trolls have nothing more appealing in their lives than bombarding a website with hate.

For the record, “troll” is used a lot around here, and not always accurately. Trolls are users whose entire purpose is to start a fight or disrupt the thread or the community.

@Dig_Dug The quickest way to reach us is via PM. I just sent you one, let’s talk over there!
