A strong thunder-storm that can produce hail, tornadoes, small flooding, and strong winds where heading to your house? You have one day to prepare and you can’t leave your town that is going be hit by this storm.

Store water and food, stay dressed and wear shoes, get out flashlights, candles, blankets, fully charge cell phones and wait.
I keep my master bath ready at all times since this is not unusual in Missouri.
I lived in Colorado for a number of years, we got hit from time to time (nothing too serious, thank goodness) so my basement was always prepped.
Got a tornado warning a few summers ago. Headed to the basement with a book. It was over in 40 minutes. Hurricane prep is always – flashlights, bottled water, freezer food, portable heater….
Get my two cats (although they will probably already be in the basement) and get to the basement. Things are already down there, just in case.
Happens here often. We just stay home if we can.
Guess I’m the oddball. I don’t do anything unless there’s an announcement that there’s a tornado on the ground within sayyy…30 miles. Then I head to the bathroom.
Charge and check batteries. I have blankets and kit in the basement with flashlight, radio, multi tool, meds, snacks, pet supplies, water, etc.
I would take my battery powered radio in the basement or bathtub and listen to further notice. @janbb Great idea of bringing a book.
Nothing. Tornadoes are rare here, but not unheard of. We’re flat enough that they CAN happen, but bumpy enough that it’s hard and they usually don’t last long. They wreck a specific strip mall or something and then break up.
Further, I live not far from a local hilly area making it that much harder for tornadoes. If one happened, i’m confident in local first responders to get to me pretty quick. I don’t have a basement per se. Not a below grade one anyway.
I grew up in the Midwest and went through it countless times every summer.
My Ruby Red Slippers of course.
Get in the tub! Or under the house.
That is called a tornado watch. I would keep on keeping on until there was a warning. That is when I’m close to or in the cellar. Tornadoes give you little time but they are very loud…you hear them coming. Of course, you should have your weather radio on during a storm…..a given.
