I always realize it. I’ve gone all day, and it’s not a big deal until it gets to be about 4:00 and then I’m getting very hungry.

When I was younger, and thinner, I would be very hungry right when I woke up. Now, I have all these extra calories on my body to take me through for a day with no problem.

I have a couple relatives through marriage who don’t notice when they don’t eat. My husband is a little like that too. I don’t think they feel hungry like most people, but they get very annoying and short tempered (hangry) and everyone around them knows they haven’t eaten. All of them deny that it’s because they are hungry and resent anyone saying so. It’s like an addict who is unaware they are being assholes, but everyone around them knows they need their drug.

No. I don’t function without food. I am a eating machine.

No, I’d die done dead of starvation. Always been a chow hound.

It’s weird, I can get up at 4 or 5 in the morning. Go all day even work out at the gym, come home do things around the house, go shopping. Come back, watch TV do some more stuff, get on line, go for a walk etc. and not even get hungry. My brother thinks I’m an alien because if he don’t eat his head gets all fuzzy. lol I still have energy to burn :)

Almost every day.

I start the day with about five cups of coffee, and then may run out the door to go shopping or run errands and not eat, but the five cups of coffee counts as something and holds me over. On days when I do that, around 2 I will know that I need to eat something, even if it’s just stopping for a bagel.

^^^ Ahhh… To be 20 again….
No. I think about my next meal many times per day. What’s in the fridge that needs to be eaten before it gets rotten? Do I need more fiber today? Did I eat something from all the major food groups? Are the avocados and bananas getting mushy?

janbb's avatar

No, I can skip a meal sometimes or nosh my way through the day but I have to eat at some point.

Love_my_doggie's avatar

I do that often. I guess I’m the opposite of a foodie, generally indifferent about eating.

Forever_Free's avatar

Yes. Many days. My stomach does not drive me. Coffee and Water will do me fine for most of the day. Work, Gym, School, Read, Walk Dog, Bed. Yet I love to cook for everyone!

Acrylic's avatar

No, but a few times the end of the day came and I realized I didn’t speak a word all day. It happens.

I was sick once and I could barely drink water. Another time is when I was going out with my friends and I had a small breakfast that was a small bowl of cereal and I hung out with them for a few hours having to much fun to realize that I was hungry until lunch when they said we should eat and then I got vary hungry.

raum's avatar

All the time. Interoception issues. Don’t always get hunger cues.

flutherother's avatar

My eating is quite structured; breakfast when I get up, lunch around 12:00 and an evening meal at around 5:00. It is part of my daily routine to eat at these times.

Dig_Dug's avatar

@raum Does your issue effect other senses?

raum's avatar

I don’t always recognize early cues when I’m hungry or when I’m full. Signals for pain or fatigue are also kind of wonky. Probably explains high threshold for pain and insomnia.

Very light touch or very quiet sounds (like the radio on 0 volume) really bother me. It’s like the body doesn’t process the information from stimuli at the appropriate level?

Dig_Dug's avatar

Is there anything that can be done to help? Medicines or therapy? It would be hard to live with something like that.

raum's avatar

Occupational therapy can help with interoception issues. Though I’m kind of used to my quirks at this point. Plus my family is pretty good at reminding me to eat (and to stop eating).

Only when I have been newly in love. Three different girls. Nine different broken hearts. Oh. Just realized that I didn’t realize I didn’t eat, when I have been heart broken…..

Eating, is a “time vampire.”....

YARNLADY's avatar

I am diabetic and when I go too long between meals I get shaky and weak, so I can’t really “forget” to eat or I would pass out.

LuckyGuy's avatar

@MrGrimm888 Eating is also the time to use the laptop. That’s when I check emails and come to this site. And browse news, and look at stocks, and scroll news videos, and…

Yep! “Time Vampire”!

Lightlyseared's avatar

I’m a nurse. I go all day and realise I haven’t eaten anything, drunk anything or sat down in 13 hours and am probably in renal failure or worryingly regular basis.

Dig_Dug's avatar

@Lightlyseared Oh My God! At least you’re in the right place when you pass-out. You must take better care of yourself!

RocketGuy's avatar

Ever since I started WFH I’ve been eating like a Hobbit: breakfast, 2nd breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, midnight snack. Been skipping elevensies and supper, though.

jca2's avatar

@RocketGuy What is WFH?

janbb's avatar

@jca2 WFH – work from home

MrGrimm888's avatar

Hmm. I was certain WFH, meant Whore F¥€King House…..

First mistake of the year….

@MrGrimm888 Along with your body healing, your sense of humor is rebounding. Thank goodness for that!

^Many thanks, to many things.
I’m thankful that I have such resiliency to survive both the severe events that led to my suicide by alcohol, and subsequent liver failure. In total. I was in a living Hell, for about three or four years…
Psychologically, I essentially succeeded in killing myself. A terrible, traumatic, tortured, drawn out death…
Part of me, is the same. Otherwise. I’m a very different person.
I hope to be less negative, less serious, and more understanding of my place in the universe. Trying to enjoy my new/second life. I have much to learn, much to gain, and many wounds (physical and mental,)to to take time to heal.
I crashed and burned…
Time to rise from the ashes.

It’s great to hear from you. Really. It’s great to just be alive, and part of life is having relationships that help us through this difficult journey. I am appreciative that I know jellies like you, and all of my Fluther family. Let’s try to enjoy this ride, together.

Peace and love, to all…

Dig_Dug's avatar

^^ Well you have a new jelly to torment you now so your stuck with me now to! lol! You’re not going anywhere!!

MrGrimm888's avatar

^Well. Apparently. I’m hard to kill…
You should see me around. As long as I am around IRL…
Sorry I derailed the thread for a second.
Moving on.
:)
