What Dungeons and Dragons alignment are Democrats and Republicans?

Most are lawful good.

D&D alignments have always been a pretty cartoonish and silly way to pigeon-hole monsters into teams so you can justify them being on teams as an excuse for them to kill each other a lot.

US political factions tend to label each other as evil, and themselves as good. That’s not really helpful, nor congruent with D&D alignments.

We used to have an arrangement where R and D both said they were “Lawful Good” but had different opinions along (also overly simplistic) other axes such as Conservative/Liberal or Right/Left or whatever, but really almost all of them were to one degree or another under the control of their parties, which were both aligned with Corporate America and the ultra-rich. Now though we’ve got so-called “culture wars” and a faction that wants either a right-wing dictator or to undermine the Federal government as much as possible.

@Zaku I was wondering if one side leaned to neutral good vs. lawful neutral. I was at a loss. Thanks for your answer.

On another note I think the “alignment” concept is stupid and should be dumped. D20 modern had it right and got rid of it but D&D sadly kept it.

Most are Neutral, Evil (both parties).

Doesn’t really work. They can both be lawful or unlawful on different issues, and they can both be good or evil on different issues.

No one should ever assume that just because someone disagrees with you that they are evil or have malign motives. The two parties are mostly made up of people who want to make things better. They just don’t agree on how to define ‘better’ or how to get there.

Republicans: Chaotic Evil
They are among the most frightening, simply because they are so unpredictable. They often take pride in causing suffering, and pursue destruction for its own sake. While they may have an agenda, they’ll take any opportunity to wreak havoc, even if it doesn’t move their goals forward. Often referred to as “demonic” due to their erratic and destructive nature. While other evil characters murder and betray to advance themselves, Chaotic Evils often do so simply because it’s fun.

Democrats: Lawful Neutral
Whether it’s the letter of the law or a personal creed, they stand by their conviction — for better or worse. Some have a mission that must not fail, regardless of sacrifices they may have to make. Others, may have been raised with strict rules, and are inclined or compelled to abide by them. They believe in organization. Many are devoted to law and order, believing that their nation would collapse without it. They can often be rigid characters, who see the world in terms of black and white.
