Like a Cessna 172 or Beechcraft Baron and Piper Meridian. I did only once, kinda scary. Being afraid of heights and there was a glass bottom of sorts. (gulp)

Yes. Four of us went on a very short flight in a single engine plane. A friend of mine, his father and their son-in-law who owned the plane and was the pilot. My friend’s father was a retired Lt. Col., USAF.
My first plane ride was on one of these when I was 6 or 7 years old. This was in the mid 70s. I lived in Las Vegas and my parents won a contest to fly over the city in it.
I’m sorry I can’t tell you the exact type of plane because I don’t know my planes. It was old. I’ll share a pic later.
Yes. I’ve never flown on a LARGE prop plane, but sometimes when getting connections to or from smaller airports, you get on local commuter planes and they’re usually prop planes. I have been on several.
They’re definitely not my favorite, but I don’t think the experience is because it’s a propeller so much as because of the size of the craft. Smaller planes are much more susceptible to sharp movements in turbulence. I strongly suspect that a large, old school prop plane probably didn’t bounce like those little commuter guys.
Also, fun moment, I was on a bazillionaire’s private jet once too. The company I worked for was bought by SAS in NC and he flew us down to SAS HQ in NC in a getting acquainted thing. He was like a bond villain. Remember the bond villain parody from the Simpsons who was super-nice but with just a little bit of a creepy vibe. That was the vibe I got from him. Kind of an odd duck.
Anyway, that was my only time on a private jet. It was a little cool.
Yup, and loved it,was allowed to take the controls for a few minutes as well .
Also flew in an open cockpit biplane and was allowed to take the stick for a few minutes as well.
Yes. It was a sea plane, propellered all the same. Was fun.
Yes. A freind of mine once owned a Piper Cub and we flew up to Waco once on a lark. Lots of fun. Crazy dude flew low over a pasture between Austin and Waco and freaked some cows out. Farmer would probably have shot at us if he had seen that LOL. I thought it was funny as hell and since he was a lot older than me and a retired Air Force pilot who had fought in Vietnam I didn’t say anything. Actually it was cool to see he had a sense of humor after all he has been thru in the war.
My father took me on a ride during a “bring your kid to work” day. I am telling you, a roller coaster has nothing on a genuine dive bombing run. And those soldiers scattering like ants trying to escape? I have never beheld a better sight.
Many times. A good friend is a captain for United and owns a Cessna. I have taken many flights with him for various boondoggles.
My father owned a Beechcraft Bonanza, we flew from San Francisco to Portland OR, and back the next day. That was nice. My mom and I sat in the back seat and read the Sunday NY Times on the return.
I have flown in lots of commercial prop planes. I flew in a DC 3 to South America when I was a kid, and on small 60 passenger prop planes into places like Aspen CO.
I took a weekend “emergency second seat” course when my dad had his plane, actually took off and landed a Beechcraft.
Yes, my Dad was a flight instructor back in the 50s and 60s and we got to fly quite a bit (Cessna, Mooneys and the like) we took a vacation in 1960 and crash landed coming out of O’hare. Lost power on take off. we landed in the farm field across from the airport, that was exciting.
^^^That was a long time ago; there are no farm fields around O’Hare now!
A few times. The most scary was the seaplane. Taking off not as bad as landing. Oh my goodness. I’ve been on very small prop planes as well as a couple that accommodated about 12 passengers. Both of these examples occurred mostly while spending time in Caribbean Islands.
A few years ago, they had a Veteran’s Day breakfast at the local small airport. A bunch of private owners brought their planes and were giving veterans free rides. I was taken up in a VERY small two-seater. Had about as much room in the cockpit as a SMART car without a backseat. He took us up showed me how it worked and let me fly around awhile. What a blast that was!
@janbb maybe a thing or two that I have not. I am working on those too.
I make sure that Life is never boring.
Yes, a small Cessna in stormy weather. It was like floating around in a VW bug. The wind tossed us around, so I got queasy.
