Are you going to miss Bed, Bath, & Beyond once they're gone?

Asked by LadyMarissa (16302points) April 25th, 2023

Bed Bath & Beyond announced Sunday that they are filing bankruptcy & are in the process of shutting down. Upon further research, it appears that they filed Chapter 11 actually giving them the opportunity to reorganize their debt. I’ve never shopped there as the closest one to me is about 50 miles away & I don’t go that way very often. Still, many of my friends loved shopping there & I feel a slight connection to the store. Do you ever shop at BB&B & do you really care that they may be closing?

I was talking to friend about it today, and we will miss it. Where else can you find simple bamboo toaster tongs at a moment’s notice?
And I hate that so many people will be losing their jobs.

Yes. However I was angry when they fired the “My pillow” guy for talking to Trump in the white house. Guilt by association.

I will have to order my luxury, big and tall, bedding from Amazon from here on now.

I was looking for something there just before Christmas. Basically they had no stock, no inventory. Lots of empty shelves, and no name brands, only things and companies I had never heard of.

It’s a shame – they could have had that whole business to themselves, but management blew it. So now I end up buying from Amazon or Overstock or something like that.

Sad.

I never shopped there a whole lot, and I don’t think I have been in an actual BB&B store since COVID. I’m no longer as worried about COVID, although I still am cautious and wear my mask in stores, but I just kind of fell out of the habit of shopping in person as much as I used to.

Any any rate, I always thought they were rather overpriced, but it was still fun to go there and look for unique items that one might want. I did buy something online from them shortly after I moved, but that was because a friend gave me a gift card to the store. Sounds like it’s a good thing that I used it right away.

Never been, always wanted to but never got around to it, oh well.

Yes! It was a great store, although in the last few years it really changed and felt more like a discount store. It really was a shame to see the change.

I am sad to see it close up. It was way better than Walmart or Target for most home goods and had some great novelty items. I liked it better than the store Home Goods and Pier 1 also.

My current house I have from
BB&B:
– Curtains, curtain rod, and curtain rings from there.
– Towel rack with multiple bars.
– Panini grill.
– glass storage containers.
– frying pans.
– dishes.
– towels.
– drawer trays.
– lazy susan
– spice thingy with multiple levels.
– spatulas
– electric candles that I bought my aunt during Sandy, but I have them now.
– paper towel holder.
– oven mitt and place matts.
– tablecloth and waterproof liner
– framed artwork.

I use almost all of those things regularly.

Never heard of them.

I almost never went there. The last time I went there was to buy a tea kettle about 10 years ago. There was not one in my immediate area anyway. The one that I would go to if I had to was near my job, which is about 45 minutes from here.

I went maybe twice a year, and didn’t always buy something. Lol. That probably didn’t help their business much. Some years more some years less. I shopped there more when I was a young adult and needed more stuff. Now, I have most of the stuff I need, and I don’t replace things too often.

Some of the items on my list above are 20+ years old.

On the news, they had a retail analyst talking about where Bed Bath and Beyond went wrong. They said it’s because the store never got on the mail order internet bandwagon and that really hurt them.

So basically what happened to all the video stores.

We don’t/didn’t have one in my entire state. But when I went out of state, I did like to shop there. So I won’t miss them here, but I am a bit sad they are closing.

It was a good place to go when my daughter was going off to college.
They pretty much had everything to help when a person is moving to a new place.
They killed themselves when they tried to do their own brands way too fast.

My daughter is now graduating college in a few weeks and moving out West. I will miss it to have a go to place to help her outfit her new place in June.

@jca2 It seemed like their buying changed a lot the last five years. I think the change was before covid, but I’m not sure of the chronology. When I moved 7 years ago it was still good. When I went to one about 5 years ago it was hugely disappointing, but it was in an outlet mall, so I thought maybe that was why. Then the next time I went to the one near my house it also just wasn’t as nice as many years ago and kept going downhill.

I thought they were already gone. I bought pillow cases online years ago at a going out of business sale. I thought. Guess I was wrong or they simply reorganized.

zenvelo's avatar

I won’t really miss them, I have been into one maybe four times since the pandemic started, They became increasingly difficult to shop in as things were strewn all over the store.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I’ve never been to one.

KNOWITALL's avatar

I won’t miss them but it was fun to go a few times a year. Ours was basically like a Walmart with overflowing shelves and stuff everywhere, so it wasn’t a pleasant environment.

chyna's avatar

^Yeah the ones I have been in were pretty messy.

janbb's avatar

I hardly ever went there and the last time I did, there was very little inventory on the shelves but I do mourn in general the loss of retail stores.

nightwolf5's avatar

No, because we don’t have them in my area, but yeah I think they do have nice things. I thought the website would still sell stuff, I guess that’s going too.

Whevever I see this question my brain combines the “Be” and the “once” and I read it as Beyonce. LOL
