What do I do with my Dell computer? (Details Inside)
Three years ago I bought a core I5 computer from dell.canada, and it crashed every so often. On December it crashed while updating, and it cost ~$250 for a new hard drive.
I only need it for classes in the distant future.
I use my cell phone for everything now.
I have not used my computer after the hard drive was replaced.
Do I sell it? Keep it for later classes? Or toss in the trash? The computer is an all in one that doesn’t have a tower. I paid $1,500 for it.

I don’t know about Canada; but here in the US, I take mine to our local Goodwill & donate it. It’s a tax writeoff as a donation to a charity. They don’t care whether it works or not. They train the disabled or mentally challenged people on how to repair it. If it can’t be repaired, they keep it for parts for a possible future donation so they NEVER have to buy parts for repairs.
In your case, I don’t think that saving it for future classes would be beneficial as it will be old & out of date by the time it is needed. It would be a shame to waste it by throwing it away. You won’t get much if you try to sell it. Have you considered offering it to some underprivileged family who can’t afford to buy one & would be thrilled to have one even if it does crash every so often???
@LadyMarissa I will ask a member of the clergy if they know any family that wants it? Or if they do?
Thanks.
Goodwill sounds good too. I will call next month to see if they pick up.
Do you have a computer repair store that sells used computers, maybe they would buy it ?
Update computer tech took it. I only had to walk a half block to his store. He will see if it works, and will see if we can cut a deal for store credit or something. I’m glad that It is going to be used, and not just waste space on my table.
Did you delete personal stuff from it before you handed it over?
@Jeruba It was a new hard drive that I never used.
