I’m so happy that George Santos is being charged criminally. He’s been so smug about his lies and his deception, and his success with getting away with it.
How do you feel?

I feel there is finally a movement underway to hold these smug, untouchable SOBs accountable. That makes me so happy!
I agree with @Dutchess_III that political leaders need to be held accountable for their actions.
“Happy” is not the word I would use. Satisfied, glad, mollified, but not happy. Happy would have been if he had that smug look wiped off his face last November,
I am glad that he is finally facing the reality of his lies. I hope this brings checks on candidates depth in the future.
I hate corruption and it is a good thing when justice is served against people in power who break the trust of the American people.
I’d like to see him relegated to the ash pit where he belongs. He stole from so many people, lied to millions. There needs to be consequences or else others will follow in his footsteps.
~His resume states that he was the leader of the prison reform movement in 1980.
@LuckyGuy The quantity of his lies and the enormity of the lies is so outrageous.
Whatever sentence he receives, it won’t be enough, and I expect he will face other charges shortly.
It is crazy to me that it had to come to this. In a functioning House of Representatives, he should have been brought up on ethics charges and forced to resign. But I’m glad that someone is making him face his mendacious ways and that there will be severe consquences..
As a side note, I find it incredible that anyone who calls themselves a true Christian or believer in any strong moral code could support both him and Trump with their total amorality.
@janbb
It is easy to understand once you realise that their “christian values” can be pretty much reduced to “control women and kill the gays”. With only these actual “values” that they believe in, there is no more conflict with their affinity towards alpha male machismo, people who do and take what they want, without regard to others.
Months ago, one of the news media found and reported an unidentified $700K+ contribution to Santos’ campaign. When questioned, Santos said that the money had been his own, paid from his personal funds. That response was scoff-worthy, because he wasn’t wealthy and didn’t have such resources. I knew that follow-the-money would ensue; the Dept. of Justice would investigate and trace the source of the $700K.
I’m amazed that Santos was indicted in mid-May, just 4 months after he took office. That was very fast work by the government. What’s even more interesting is that the investigation found 13 charges, including money laundering, wire fraud, and theft of public funds.
I’m sad, more than anything, that the US House of Representatives has such a shitass piece of crap as a member. What have we come to?
His ultimate status: who care’s? He’s another in a long line of crooked politicians.
I’d put it this way. I am happy he is not avoiding criminal charges.
@Love_my_doggie I read somewhere that they’ve actually been investigating him since 2019, so that might be why it seems like it happened so fast.
His apparent created fictional life isn’t a thing to me one way or the other. His constituents elected him without doing any research on him. If anything, that puts him on par with most of the professional liars in DC.
@seawulf575 Yeah, except that he’s actually a criminal as well as a liar.
@seawulf575 “His constituents elected him without doing any research on him.”
To be fair, most voters don’t hire private investigators to validate the accuracy of a politician’s resume. The media absolutely failed the voters and his opponent’s campaign manager should find a new line of work.
@janbb As I see it they are all criminals that are just not held accountable.
^But isn’t that just an excuse for that type of behavior? They all do it, so George is just too stupid to hide his wrongdoings, but let’s let it go?
I personally think politicians should be held to a higher standard than others, so no matter if they are democrats, republicans or independents, the lying, stealing and cheating needs to stop!
@chyna No, it isn’t an excuse for his behavior. It is an excuse for my apathy on the whole thing. You are correct that politicians should be held to a higher standard than others, but we have seen even on these pages that they allow partisanship to block being held to a higher standard.
Hey Penguin can I give 10 more GA s ?
I would feel the same elation if George Santos was a Democrat.
@seawulf575 So then why do you say that on these pages (meaning Fluther) we allow partisanship to block being held to a higher standard?
@jca2 I actually said even on these pages. It goes on many more places. But let’s go back in time a moment. Back to when Congress was trying to impeach Donald Trump for doing a “quid pro quo” with the Ukrainian president. If true, it very well should be an impeachable offense. Yet at the same time we see a video of Joe Biden bragging about doing exactly that…threatening to withhold needed aid unless Ukraine fires their AG within 6 hours. He was proud of it. Yet the media and many of the left leaning jellies on these pages ignored it. I heard “it isn’t the same thing” and “he isn’t POTUS so it isn’t important” and even when presented with the idea he wanted to run for POTUS “If he is elected, we can look at it then”. None of those on the same side as Biden wanted to hold him to ANY level of accountability. They still don’t. This is a standard practice when it comes to politicians.
The irony is that I have consistently held that if a politician does something wrong and it is proven (not just alleged) then they should face a harsher penalty than you or I. And that goes for both sides of the aisle. Many of the left leaning jellies on these pages assume I am a huge Trump supporter because I don’t jump right in on any bizarre allegation against him and want to see him hung by his testicles. If you go back and look, I am usually calling for honesty in reporting and actual evidence instead of just claims.
The aforementioned impeachment. It was claimed by a mysterious whistleblower that he demanded 8 times for Zelenskyy to investigate Biden and made it a quid pro quo. The left jumped all over that as fact. Again, if it was true, I’d agree. Influence peddling is not what we want out of our elected officials. But the immediate release of the phone call transcript showed all the claims to be completely false. At that point, the non-partisan person would look at the entire thing as what it was…a political, partisan, attempt to discredit the POTUS. None of you did that. The Dems then brought in “witnesses” that were not present for the phone call, were not involved at all with the phone call, that had never met President Trump, that admitted they had no first hand knowledge of anything to do with it. Often they were giving opinion that was passed off as fact. A non-partisan person would see that as a travesty of justice. This isn’t anything to do with Trump, it has to do with not accepting partisan politics being used to undermine the republic.
@seawulf575 Seriously, you’re equating trump’s impeachable self-serving dealings with Ukraine with Biden going after that corrupt Ukrainian? Of course you are serious. trump fanatics are each and every time.
Very happy. The likes of deplorable creatures like trump and Santos can get away exposing without shame all the evil they have inside, profiteering from it…and despite all of that still garner support from equally deplorable people out there…but at least there is still push-back being done from the…thank heavens…American justice system that is still in existence.
Let’s just say that I’m pleased that he is finally getting his comeuppance. Been a long time coming.
@mazingerz88 The fact you can’t equate it shows how indoctrinated and partisan you are. The actions were 100% the same, at least what they were accusing Trump of and what Biden bragged about doing. But to you one is an impeachable offense and the other is an honorable thing.
Even though this is in Social, it would be much better if it could be kept to a discussion of George Santos which is the topic at hand. It has gone way off-base.
@seawulf575 Your attempt at being fair and non-partisan is an illusion maybe even a delusion if you really believe that what you are doing is fair. You are sly but it wouldn’t work for some people.
What you are doing is normalizing douchebaggery in American politics. Because it is the American white supremacists, nationalists and MAGA fanatics only hope in gaining any power.
@mazingerz88 I’m calling out all politicians, not just Dems or Repubs, not congressmen or senators, not SCOTUS justices, not bureaucrats. They all need to meet the higher standard. What bothers you is that I do call out everyone and you can’t. The saddest part to me is that I’m just getting too jaded to believe anything short of a major planetary crisis that wipes out most of the population will ever get the system to change.
@seawulf575 You’re not being pragmatic. Stop supporting and defending trump and his MAGA cult first and foremost. Bury them in history. Then that would be the better time to focus on any political shenanigans by Democrats.
@mazingerz88 Tell you what, when you come out and campaign to impeach Biden and hold him accountable for his actions in Ukraine, I’ll say Trump deserved the bogus impeachment. Until you can do that, you are the one that is not being pragmatic. You are swirling around in the partisan fog of the left. And you are part of the problem with what is wrong in this country.
^lol! Bogus impeachment! Lol
Guys, George Santos. Stop derailing.
