Have you heard that there's a bill proposing a 'national gun'? (details inside)

Asked by smudges (11188points) May 10th, 2023

In February 2023, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore, a Republican from Alabama, introduced a bill that would make the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle the “national gun of the United States”. Support for the bill includes Rep. Lauren Boebert and Rep. George Santos.

what’s the deal with “details inside”? Isn’t that obvious? But since I’ve had questions modded for being yes/no questions I’m hoping to be on the safe side.

Right wing fascists are backing a “cleansing” tool !

I’m not surprised.

Not surprised at all coming from Alabama, Boebert and Criminal Santos. It won’t go far

It likely won’t pass, but I’ve no problem with that. We have a national/state many other things. Besides, if it passes, you’d not be oblifate6yo buy one no more than residents of Illinois are required to plant a white oak tree on their private property.

It’s a childish attempt at pissing off anti-gun folks…
It pretty much is our national gun already. When I think of an AK-47, I think of Russia. SKS, China. Glock, Australia. US, AR-15. Etc… As far as guns go…

You mean Russia,Russia and Austria

Just trying to create more division in my country. These politicians who suggest these triggers that they hope will create an uproar are brainwashed zombies or being paid off.

Why stop with guns? We could have a national switchblade a national poison, a national hanging rope and national electric chair.

As for “details inside,” that seems supremely self-evident. Where else would they be? I always feel slightly irritated when I see that note.

But the fact is that some of us habitually skip details or skim them hastily and go straight to answering, even though they may be missing key points. So I do see some jellies just asking to get their details read, and I sure don’t fault them for trying.

Agreed! Thank you for addressing that

@Blackwater_Park although the SKS was originally designed in Russia, they only made like 3 million rifles.
Many millions more (and different variants,) were made in China by the PLA since the cold War. If you see a real SKS at a gunshow, it’s probably Chinese made. Especially the versions that have larger capacity magazines. The Russian version had a fixed 10 round mag…

As far as Australia. I’d like to thank spellcheck! It never lets me down…

Remember that Kennesaw, Georgia had a law (I think it was rescinded) that required all households in the city to own a gun. see this article

When you ask about a ‘national gun’, I immediately thought of Kennesaw’s requirement.

^^Whenever people complain about Florida I point to Georgia. I think Democrats are so excited about Stacey Abrams and the last presidential election they forget how red and crazy that state can be. Both states are run by the Republicans overall, but have big blue pockets. The difference is the last 5 years the Republicans have actively pushed for Republicans to register to vote in Florida. The Democrats (this makes me so mad) have created peer pressure causing Democrats to be embarrassed to be associated with Florida. So frustrating.

If passed, it would seriously hamper attempts to ban such weapons again. Don’t underestimate the power of an “official” title. People would liken it to banning baseball and apple pie.

^I hadn’t thought of that…
