How to know the song was made for the media or song that is licensed to used through the credits?

Asked by yaujj48 (1189points) May 14th, 2023

For a long time, I have been an idiot. If I want to know whether the song is made for the media (video games, movies etc) or not, I can check the credits. Which comes to my question, how to check the credits for status of the song.

Does using the term “Courtesy of” signified the fact that the producer licensed to use this song instead of made for the media? Also how do I know that which music is made for the media through the credits?

What is it that you’re trying to do? Are you looking to find out if you can use the music? Copyright protection for music is pretty stringent, as I understand it, unless it’s in the public domain.

My guess is that music for games is going to be original, composed for the games, because that would be the safer and cheaper option than paying for permission to use music that someone else owns the rights to.

@Jeruba I am trying to know the song in question for example, Sleepwalking by The Chain Gang of 1974 is made for GTA V or made for its own and allow the game to use the unfinished song as a promo.
