Has your life been affected negatively or positively by the Writers Guild strike?

To be honest, I think mine has improved! Each evening I used to watch Jimmy Fallon’s, Stephen Colbert’s, and Jimmy Kimmel’s previous day monologues on YouTube of course, since I don’t stay up that late and refuse to pay for cable TV.
Since the strike I’ve been accomplishing more things in the evening, going to bed earlier, and naturally, waking up earlier.
I can always find something to watch that I enjoy. Lately I’ve been watching short, independent films created by students and small production operations. Some are so clever.
Honestly, I will be a little disappointed when the strike ends.
What about you? Are you affected?

So far no change that I can tell.
Just a couple of weeks ago I was thinking about how the show The View (which I watch regularly) has been mentioning at the beginning of almost every show they support the writers, and they will stumble through doing it all themselves without their writers. I have not noticed a difference in the show. What I was wondering was, should they stop working too if they really want to support the writers? Maybe they can’t strike for some sort of contract reason?
I do think I will begin to miss the writers if it delays some of my sitcoms from beginning a new season or if nothing new is being created. I watch a lot of TV, and eventually you want new material. I am not a huge fan of reality TV, although I do watch a little of it.
Without Colbert or the Daily Show, I am much less amused.
Am I accomplishing more? Not that I know.
No real effect as yet. I’m still catching up on my series like Mrs Maisel and Ted Lasso.
No effect. I read books more than I watch TV anyhow, and mostly Netflix or Prime. So this might affect me in a year or two, but nothing so far.
I’ve thought about this for a couple weeks – unlike a lot of strikes, I’m not knee-jerkingly supporting the writers. Given the quality of current TV shows, they may be overpaid as it is. And the studios have some real issues facing them that are evolutionary.
They ought to be able to reach middle ground. But I imagine someone has to starve before that will happen.
No. I didn’t even know a strike was happening.
I had heard that there was going to be a writers strike, but I didn’t care. I cut the cord a couple years back & 3 of my local channels focus on old series from the 50s through the 70s & the strike in NO way affects them!!! The ONLY current show that comes on my TV is a competition show that was prerecorded & already in the can before the strike, so still NO damage. I do miss my morning fix of Colbert, but I’m so fed up with politics that I’m even kind of enjoying the break from that. My world isn’t defined by my TV although I do use it for background noises most of my day. Beats hearing this old house creaking as it settles!!!
I miss Colbert and Corden. Corden is finished, strike or no strike. I like watching the monologues and seeing what the late night hosts have to say about current events.
Other than that, I don’t watch a whole lot of regular TV, except maybe SNL. I miss SNL.
Honestly. I was unaware of it. So I guess it hasn’t had a negative effect. I used to watch Real Time every week, and it hasn’t been on for a few weeks. The show often takes lolong reaks, so I guess I should check out if the strike is to blame.
Other shows I watch weekly are still going. I don’t know. There are so many different entertainment options, I suppose that’s why such things come and go without me noticing.
I didn’t pay attention to hurricanes about 20 years ago. I didn’t have TV, or internet. I just figured if a big one was coming, someone would tell me…
Wow! Thank you all! I thought I was the only one who didn’t really notice or care.
I’m so glad to hear I’m not alone.
No change, I’m not a fan of political ‘snark’ humor and rarely watch local tv at all.
I doubt anyone not working in/for the film industry or being a shareholder of those companies is affected by it, beyond the equivalent of someone not being able to watch the Simpsons on September 11th.
