Do you remember how to skip?

Asked by jca2 (16826points) June 5th, 2023

On the news, they said it’s a new TikTok challenge, how to skip.

I remember how to skip. I don’t know if I could do it as well and as far as I could when I was little. It was something we did when we were outside, in the days when a lot of kids played on the sidewalk.

I haven’t tried but I may try later when I’m outside.

Absolutely! I lead a bunch if kids programs, and skipping is often a fun part of those. Skipping, hop scotch, Chinese telephone, duck duck goose, wolf. They’re all AWESOME!

Of course! I suppose TikTok needs to teach folks how to skip. Because they have spent so much of their lives indoors or online, they have no idea?

Of course.
you take a flat stone/rock/pebble, and throw it very close to the surface of the water, while imparting a spin on it to stabilise it in flight.

I know the theory and the mechanics but I’m not sure I could do it any more.

I can still skip.
It’s just awkward AF.

I just tried it. Yep. No problem.

Heck yes we skip in zumba sometimes.

I was tragically born without rhythm, so skipping is beyond me. I struggled as a child, to howls of laughter from my sisters.
My 5 year old grandson has recently shown he has a similar defect.

I can skip.

A few years ago I did a “couch to 5K” training program. At one point, as a part of warm up, one had to skip for a full minute.

Just tried it and I could do it – albeit awkwardly.

I remember how in my head. Not sure my body remembers. My knees are pretty unreliable these days. But I can remember the feeling as well as the mechanics of it.

I don’t think I know anyone who would consider this a challenge, but I could be wrong. Yes, I’m able to skip.

A couple of friends and I wondered about this several months ago, so we tried it. We all said our brains knew exactly what to do, but our bodies just wouldn’t cooperate. Well, we did something…I don’t know if it would be recognized as skipping. Bear in mind that 2 of us have had knee replacements.

Yepppers.
I also skip rope at the gym everyday.

Basic skipping I’m pretty sure I could manage at least briefly. I never even tried “double ropes” we mostly left that to the girls as far as I can remember.

@flutherother I think you’re using a different meaning of the word. We say “jumping rope” not “skipping.” Skipping here i when you hop on each foot as you propel yourself along.

jca2's avatar

@flutherother as in the video link I posted in the details.

Sorry @jca2 I should have watched your video first. We used to skip occasionally on our way to school or in the playground but skipping American style was never really a thing with us. “Skipping” was probably the word we would use to describe it but that usually meant skipping with ropes. I’ll try it later, when no one is watching.

Skipping was easier when I was younger and thinner. I did it all of the time when I was a young girl. I just tried it, and I can do it, but it takes more effort now and I don’t want to aggravate my on and off toe pain or hurt my ankles. Getting old sucks.
