Is Fluther glitchy for you?

Asked by Mimishu1995 (23800points) June 11th, 2023

I’m using the desktop page on my phone and it’s horrendously glitchy. Several images fail to load. Letters are much smaller than usual. At one point I was kicked out and I thought I couldn’t come back. Is anyone here seeing the same problem?

I’m very sorry you’re having problems.

I’m on the mobile version on an Android tablet. I’ve switched to the desktop version and back to mobile a half dozen times today. Everything is working normally.

I’ve sent two messages to the mods saying I can’t post questions—for several days now. The “Continue” button doesn’t work. Also missing graphics such as Dr. J, header, and some icons. So—some problems the same as yours and others not.

[mod says] Yes, we’ve received a few reports (^ thanks!). Ben has been alerted. Let’s hope things improve, I know it’s frustrating that this keeps happening.

The ONLY problem I’ve had was my Fluther logo missing. That usually means that things are getting ready to go down hill fast. I’ve had NO Fluther logo for over a week yet everything continued to work & I didn’t want to bother the mods with a problem that wasn’t really a problem yet. ^ Good to see that Ben’s on it before it gets any worse!!!

THANK YOU MODS!!!

Every day this place continues to exist is proof dinosaurs are making a comeback.

On Firefox for me, today, the images seem not to be loading. That’s not causing much of a problem, though.

I still see issues, like Dr. J missing in the top corner.

I tried to post a question today and am having the same issue as @Jeruba .

LOST ALL GRAPHICS ! ! !

Is anyone willing to post a question for me?

jca2's avatar

Now, no.

In the recent past, yes, couldn’i post questions on a few occasions. Frustrating, unpredictable, inexplicable.

flutherother's avatar

@JLoon No, we’re going extinct, just slowly and gracefully.

flutherother's avatar

@Jeruba If you send me your question I will post it. Fluther is working OK for me.

canidmajor's avatar

Yeah, it wouldn’t let me in earlier, now I am missing a bunch of graphics.

Mimishu1995's avatar

@Jeruba yeah. I can help too if you like.

NoMore's avatar

No issues yet.

Kropotkin's avatar

Yes. A lot of the images aren’t loading and show as broken.

Jeruba's avatar

@Mimishu1995, thanks, I will take you up on that.

Can’t post a question today 6.16.23.

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

If you can’t post a question, please tell Ben what device you are using, its operating system, and other relevant details.

It has been mentioned here before that often when the desktop site is glitchy, the mobile site is just fine. Try i.fluther dot com.

JLoon's avatar

@Hawaii_Jake and All – I feel like I’m paying last respects here , but for what it’s worth the mobile site is NOT fine. I rarely use a desktop for access, and for over a week graphics have failed to display on Android 13 with Octacore using Firefox.

I think it’s very kind for Ben & mods to attempt the tweaks they do, but it’s like sending flowers to a terminal patient. The Flash programming evidently used to build this place is used by less than 3% of developers now, and Adobe began pulling support over a year ago.

Patches aren’t really an answer anymore, and without major work to port the content to HTML5 this site will die along with thousands of others that have been basically abandoned. We’re all watching it happen. I’ve enjoyed the privacy, the quirky old fashioned feel of the interraction, and the spirit of this tiny forgotten community. But I’m winding down my visits here.

It’s not exactly goodbye, but I don’t feel like watching the rest of what’s comming.

Be well Jellies.

Mimishu1995's avatar

It seems that the issues varies from jellies to jellies. Over here I have graphics issues but I can ask questions fine. Some jellies don’t have issues, some can’t even ask questions. Maybe the problem isn’t as serious as we think?

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

@JLoon That is very enlightening. I know next to nothing about building websites, so I greatly appreciate your explanation. I’m sorry you’re winding down your participation. You are a valuable addition to the site.

For what it’s worth, I’m right now using a PC running Windows 10 and using a Chrome browser. Everything appears normal. However, I cannot ask a question on this configuration. I just tried using the i dot fluther dot com work-around, and it appeared to work fine.

At home, I use an Android tablet running Android 13 using a Chrome browser. The appearance was fine, but I did not try asking a question.

jca2's avatar

I haven’t tried asking a question in a few days but I am one who had the problem a few times over the past few months with not being able to post questions. Never prior to a few months ago was this a problem I ever had. I am thinking what @JLoon said might be the reason why.

I hope Fluther can be saved. I don’t do a whole lot of interaction on sites so this is a big part of my online activity.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

Yes. I rotate, on my phone, between Mobile and Desktop and a third setting until one works.

jca2's avatar

I just tried to post a question on my laptop and was not able to.

It was a test question, not that i really needed to post a question but it was just to see if things would be working for me, and they didn’t.

longgone's avatar

[Mod says] Everything should be fixed now! For what it’s worth, I’m not aware of any patching going on. Fluther got some updates a few years ago, during the Jelly times. These days, we usually just need a server restart or perhaps some sleuthing to find the problem.

canidmajor's avatar

All my graphics are back, yay!

Mimishu1995's avatar

Thanks Ben and the mods for their persistence. I know I can be positive about you all!

Jeruba's avatar

Hurray, I’ve got my voice back! My ability to post questions—and to see all the familiar graphics—has been restored.

Thanks, Ben. Thanks, Mods.
