Is Trump pretending to be a Republican to destroy it from within?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24892points) June 18th, 2023

I thought that in the 80’s that Donald Trump was a Democrat?

It makes sense as to why Trump acts the way that he does? If only to destroy the reputation of the Republican party?

What do you think?

No, he’s genuinely awful.

I actually think it’s possible. At his rally’s you can almost see his eyes glint red. Ha!

Trump is out for one thing and one thing only – Trump. Nothing else matters.

JLeslie's avatar

No. He is pretending to be a Republican for power and money and possibly he actually tells himself that he is a great for the country.

I think he sees it like he’s taking candy from a baby. He pretty much said that before he ran.

Trump was a registered Democrat from August 2001 through September 2009.

Thing is most politicians are on the side that most benefits them and could care less about the rest of us. Republican/Democrat/Independent, they don’t really care.

He isn’t smart enough (or patient enough) to do that.

He’s a bumbler that follows the money.

I don’t think that you’re that far off. He was a PROUD Dem for a while & he had planned on voting for Hillary until the Reps made him an offer that he couldn’t refuse & that’s when he started calling her names (shocked). Actually, he doesn’t know what he is. Since 1987, he has been registered as Rep, Ind, then Dem, back to Rep, back to Ind, & then back to Rep. I used to laugh when the Reps commented how the Deep State was hiding in the White House trying to destroy them…in my mind it was 45 doing it to them. In 2016, the Dems refused to back him, so he set out to make them pay for NOT being loyal to him. His ego just couldn’t imagine why they rejected him!!! If you pay attention to him, he has NO loyalty to anyone including ALL 3 of his wives & ALL his children. So, if the Dems stroked his ego, he would flip in a skinny minute assuming he thought it would make him more money!!! Then he’d attack the Reps every bit as hard as he does the Dems right now. He’d go to the highest bidder!!!

I agree with @elbanditoroso I don’t think he is smart enough,he is in it for the money that and his ego.

JLeslie's avatar

@LadyMarissa Why do you emphasize PROUD Democrat? I don’t remember that. Democrat sure, but he admitted he gave money to politicians in both parties. Politics for him is about business and influence.

I think he is trying to be a HUMAN, he flunks. But the butt heads that support him continue to send him millions a day . . . . .

He is TOAST ! ! ! !

Wait until the Georgia voting intimidation arrest ! ! ! !

elbanditoroso's avatar

@Tropical_Willie I am eager for the Fulton County prosecutor to release the report and indict him.

He may escape a guilty verdict on one of the other two, but the Fulton County prosecutor has him on tape with the Ga secretary of state and others.

If you’re stupid enough to try and throw an election, one thing you should do is make sure that you’re not recorded…Stupidity run amok.

@elbanditoroso Trump is NOT the brightest bulb on the the tree and he repeatedly show he is LOW VOLTAGE !

He is pretending to be a Republican to destroy the government.
Consider his appointments to cabinet positions. He appointed someone to head the department of energy, who had vowed to get rid of it. Same with the postal service. Same with the department of environmental protection.

kritiper's avatar

I doubt he is really a Republican. Back in 2016 he signed a piece of paper for the Republicans stating he would abide by their standards, wants. But he’s only running for himself, no party affiliation required.
If he doesn’t get the Republican nomination for the Republican party in 2024, I think he’ll run as an independent, or as a write-in. His ego won’t allow for anything less.

As an almost uniquely self-centred human being you can expect everything Trump does to be fake, shallow and destructive to others.

jca2's avatar

He’s a narcissist.

He’s conservative, so I’d say he’s more in line with Republican ideals than with Democratic ideals. He’s anti-labor, anti-environment, anti-abortion. He calls women pigs and thinks they’re around for his pussy grabbing, so he has traditional ideas of what women are (kind of cave man-ish). He’s not as conservative as many in the Republican party, but they love him and so they all belong with each other.

Pretend?
You mean like he pretended to be President?
Like he pretended he had nothing to do with Jan 6?
Or the 30573 lies he told during his 4 years in office?

His new book called “The Art of the Lie” will be a #1 Bestseller!!

LadyMarissa's avatar

Nobody seems to remember, but back in the late 70s early 80s he bragged that he identified with tthe Dems. He was pro-abortion at the time. As a matter of fact, in the early 90s he got his mistress pregnant & tried to force her to have an abortion. She refused, went public with the news…then he left his wife & kids in order to make her an honest woman & Tiffany a legit child. That’s why he treats her so crappy now…he wanted her gone!!! Marla finally figured out to play his game so she didn’t have to work. She keeps her mouth SHUT!!! When he first ran for office in 2016, there were links to backup ALL of that. Once he became prez, everything disappeared (once again shocked).

jca2's avatar

@LadyMarissa Donald Trump married Marla Maples (Tiffany’s mother) two months after Tiffany was born, so technically she was not made legit in that way.

LadyMarissa's avatar

He did what he does best…delay, delay, delay!!!

He’s pretending to be a Republican and he will destroy the party from within, not to. He has often pretended he believes in things other than his own importance, to gain things or dodge things, but he’s not even close to being a real or competent enough person to hatch a plot of the kind you describe.

mazingerz88's avatar

Destroy it from whose pov? The Republican MAGA trump fanatics think they are winning gaining power defending their douchebag actor/gladiator/avenger/Mafia boss. Lol

JLeslie's avatar

Trump is nothing. It’s not like he is a Democrat pretending to be a Republican, he will be anything that will get him a win.

Smashley's avatar

@mazingerz88 – though the maga fools may seem in charge, they are poison that is steadily alienating the larger, rational base of Republicans. Eventually, I believe, these people will find another outlet for their political aspirations, leaving the Republicans with just that small pool of fucking supine jellies who can never not follow Trump. The other party will become the new second party, and the party of Lincoln will go the way of the Whigs and the Federalists and the Democratic Republicans

Trump is a giant bag of hot air and I’m not sure he pretends to be anything else.
