SQL people: can you recommend a SQL server for personal (amateur) use?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33577points) June 22nd, 2023

MSSQL and even MSSQL Express are way too heavy and complicated for my needs.

I’m looking for a database manager that is reasonably simple to use – not a huge learning curve.

Database is about 400,000 records as of June 1, 12 fields per row.

Currently stored in Excel, which is fine, but i can do better.

Any suggestions for a reasonably simple SQL setup?

I’m more familiar with Mac software. You might want to look for a Windows solution that uses SQLite, MySQL or even PostgreSQL all of those are free, open-sourced database engines. Of course if the data manager tool, that interfaces for you with the database is nice to use, then someone is probably charging money for it.

Back when I dabbled in it, I used mySQL. used it to make my own 4chan-like image forum.

I would recommend Softonic SQL Server. No updates, but works well for a free version.
