What have you been up to?

Asked by Mimishu1995 (23800points) July 26th, 2023

I’m aware that I’m not as active on Fluther as I used to. That is because a lot of things have happened to me outside of Fluther. I have been exploring a lot of things. I have been in other online communities and testing the water of new relationships. Some work well, some don’t, some have been disasters. I have also been spending a lot of time in my support group working through my issues. They have been very supportive so far and I’m getting better day by day.

So yeah, I think I’m starting a new chapter in life, with lots of things to explore. I’m not going anywhere, I’m just really wrapped up in new discoveries right now.

How about you? What have you been up to?

Catching up on work, busy-work, tasks, taking my cat for walks, and gearing up for my next creative projects.

I have a 135 day streak on Duolingo French lessons.

I am watching YouTube videos on reading food labels, and raw veganism.

I’m eating more fruit.

I’ve stopped drinking everything except milk and cool tap water; Everything else is a treat.

I’ve been playing with Instacart, DoorDash, and Skip the Dishes.

Still in recovery from my transplant. Things seem to be going well. LOTS of exercise.

It’s been WAY too hot to go out in my canoe, or really anywhere outside for very long. As a result. I’ve spent many days playing guitar and working on little projects here and there.

I’m allowed to drive now. That took a inexplicably long process… But. It’s over…

Normal summer stuff here. I just don’t drink anymore.
Not drinking has been no problem still. Haven’t drank in almost 3 years. Don’t plan to…

I always have a side project (or two.) I’ve been studying some Eastern religion stuff (mostly Buddhism,) and subsequently some Eastern philosophy.

I probably spend about nine hours a week studying things about space, astrophysics, physics period, and I struggle mightily with quantum physics but it’s crazy interesting.

I get literature on different subjects, or these days (more often than not,) research on the net. Often one subject of interest leads to another.

Most of my time is spent surviving the chaos of life.

I’m glad you’re too busy to hang around Fluther Mimi!

I was working part time while studying medical coding the past two years but I just started a new full time job about six weeks ago at one of the best hospitals in the state. I enjoy my work and I get excellent benefits. I’m very happy. My husband and I still like to go camping about every other weekend when weather is nice or we stay in town and try new restaurants. We have a great restaurant scene here in Madison, WI. In fact, the new season of Top Chef will begin filming in Milwaukee and Madison later this summer. The world will get to see what our beautiful city has to offer.

@MrGrimm888 It’s so good to see your update. I was really worried about your health, but you seem to be doing really well. You also seem to be busy with self-improvement too. I hope we will both learn and discover something new and improve as people. And also I hope we can still get in touch :)

Hi Mimi Thank you for posting! It is always good to hear from you!

On the radio this morning I heard a Vietnamese-American writer (who arrived here as a young child) talk about how different history looked from the American and Vietnamese perspectives.

I thought of you and your perspective, as a young Vietnamese person who knows America somewhat well with your flawless English and conversations online.

After decades of desk jobs, I am working in an Amazon warehouse. Sitting all day gave me heart problems, arthritis and bone spurs.

2+ years of physical labor at Amazon have made me stronger, more agile, and more hearth healthy. I work with people from around the world and get paid for exercising.

On the downside, my income is much lower than when I worked in tech, real estate and tax law. My approaching old age may be difficult.

But after two heart attacks and struggles with joint pain, I am thrilled to be working a physically hard job, where I compete with people ⅓ my age.

@RedDeerGuy1 that’s great! I went all the way through the premium Duolingo program for Ukrainian but then was somewhat lost at where to go from there. So I haven’t been working on my Ukrainian and now I’ve probably forgotten a good deal. I’m thinking of going back and reviewing it on Duolingo, but I need a plan for after that.

To answer the question in general, I’m not on Fluther as much, but part of that is because I’ve been working to stay off my phone more. I get too caught up in social media and I want to spend more time doing other things that I love. I’ve started cross stitching again and I’m reading more than I had in a while. I also started collecting stamps this past winter. I don’t spend a lot of money on that but I have been able to get a lot of cool stamp sets from it Etsy of all places!

Otherwise, spending quality time with my cats and taking care of my health. I have stage four kidney disease so I’m trying really hard not to let my kidneys deteriorate to where I have to go on dialysis, even though I know it will probably get to that point eventually.
