Can you help me with garage door sizes?

Asked by JLeslie (65743points) August 1st, 2023 from iPhone

I’ve been trying to google, but this isn’t coming easy to me.

I’m wondering what standard size doors come that are 10’ high? Can I get one 18×10? That would be my ideal. I’m assuming there is a way to special order any size, but I’m curious about standard sizes assuming those would be more reasonable priced.

I want minimum 12×10. If there are standard sizes in-between they would also be considered.

Thanks!

This might help.

You will want to plan for an opening that will accommodate one of the panels in the link below (number of panels multiplied by the height of the panel). The alternative would be a garage door with custom made panels.

I searched for “replacement garage door panel” and found this: https://www.lowes.com/search?searchTerm=garage%20door%20panels

I think Home Depot has an article about this which may help you. We read it years back so it may not still be there…..........I’m not even sure they still have that bank of articles.

Are parking an oversized vehicle ?

I had a friend that added a “barn” to park his Winnebago, to the two car garage.

Contact your local garage door specialists for answers to your garage door questions. You might find them in the Yellow Pages.

@JLeslie You could have a garage door installer come out, pretend you’re interested in having them put in doors, and then use the information they give you. It’s possible that you just might like what the person tells you and you might use them to purchase doors from and/or install them.

When I was looking at getting a new bathroom done a few years ago, I contacted someone from Angie’s List, in my search for a c ontractor. I ended up not using the person from Angie’s List but he did have a thought about closet door placement and I used that idea when I had the bathroom redone. He suggested moving the hinges to the other side of the door so it opened in the other direction – a minor change but something I hadn’t thought of, and it made total sense and made a difference in the flow of movement when I get ready in the bathroom.
