Do you believe that justice will be served in the case of Donald J. Trump?

Asked by Jeruba (56062points) August 2nd, 2023

I see so many ways that he could escape what’s coming to him that I can’t help doubting he’ll ever pay for his crimes, any of them.

What’s your take?

No. He will die of old age before he sees a day in prison. Delay, delay, delay…

I would love to see him die in prison; an end worthy of Shakespeare, but I doubt it will come.
The important thing is for future presidents to know that there are penalties for betraying the oath of office.

I hope so!!

Depends on what you mean by justice. I think he will be proven guilty. Will that convince half or more than half of the electorate not to vote for him? Will he be our next President? I worry.

too early to tell. I would like to see him in prison, but I doubt it will happen.

All this is funny to me. For all his many faults, Trump has been one of the less destructive and overtly criminal presidents in recent decades.

You’ve got very recent former presidents walking freely who are credibly regarded as war criminals, who sanctioned mass spying on citizens, drew up extra-judicial murder lists, who sanctioned the detention and torture of innocent victimes without due process or good evidence—and no one seems to be calling for them to go to prison.

^^Yes but they’re not Americans.

Justice will be served once trump himself is hurting enough mentally that his physical health starts to decline. Whether he is in prison or not.

He doesn’t care about anything but his ability to get attention and inflict pain on those who hate him. Losing his health is punishment enough for this horrible American.

Justice is a dish best served cold!!

Inevitably, yes.

He’s going DOWN down down . . . unless the insane-o’s seize power somehow.

Even 500 or 1000 years is too good for him, though.

He should never have been the GOP candidate in 2016.

He should never have been elected.

Once elected, when he immediately started showing himself to be a lying saboteur and underminer in cahoots with the Russian mob/government, he should have been ejected from office and/or put in a secret dungeon by Homeland Security and/or the FBI and/or NSA, and interrogated to determine who the more competent people were who were involved.

In practice, though, I think they decided it was wiser to leave him in place, not just to not outrage his moronic base and other political and legal nonsense, but to observe. The security agencies have no doubt been mining his idiotic antics for intel, while interrogating him probably wouldn’t really reveal much.

So he’s getting much better than he deserves, but that doesn’t matter as much as addressing the larger problems that he is a symptom of.

No, justice isn’t a concrete judgment.

People just get away with things sometimes.

Forever_Free's avatar

No. We all know what he did. We all know how wrong he acted everyday and still does.

In books of law he could be found guilty of 18 U.S. Code § 241 – Conspiracy against rights with the clause that a death did occur as a result of Jan 6 and thus be sentenced to death.
__They shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, they shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.__

I doubt if justice will be served but if we believe in justice we have to make the attempt.

MrGrimm888's avatar

Depends largely on one’s definition of “justice.”

If you mean, “will he be held accountable for the many crimes he has committed?” Then. NO.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

The question is will Stormy Daniels release videos of his wide and short private parts ! ! !

LostInParadise's avatar

Regardless of whether justice is done, there is something very wrong with this country. How can Trump have so much support after what he did? The whole world seems to be tilting further to the right.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Maybe that support is somewhat of an illusion @LostInParadise, cuz he has to pay people to support him.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

Seeing that he didn’t have to make his mug shot and fingerprints public, if they did it at all, reaks of special privilege.

I would like to know how Trump got an exemption?
