Writer's block but right at the start, any advice?

Asked by KmiberDWZ (167points) August 5th, 2023

Does anyone else hate it when you don’t know how to start off a story that you’re planning on writing but can’t figure out a way to start it off, thus having writer’s block? Cuz I sure do! Do any of you guys have any advice to overcome this or something, if you have any advice I would appreciate it! Thx! _

If safe outside then go for a walk.

Also you can write anything, whatever comes to mind.

Also if you have the technology, you could record a conversation about the topic that you are writing for.

You might to consider brainstorming on a large sheet of paper.

Or a thought web.

Take a small piece of paper, maybe the size of a flash card. Teachers will give students the assignment that they can write anything, but it must fit on that card. It works.

I suggest a refresher course in English grammar.

If you cannot begin the story, write something about the main character or the backdrop/location for the story. Anything to get you writing. You can go back and write/rewrite the beginning later.

There’s a technique called free writing where you just put down whatever comes to your mind and write for a certain amount of time without stopping or mentally editing. You just put down your thoughts on the subject without stopping and if you can’t think of what to write, you just write “I can’t think of what to write.” It is a technique used in writing classes and should help you get unblocked.

What is the paper about

Usually I stare at the paper until my forehead bleeds.
I don’t recommend it.
Whatever your topic, try writing about the small effect it has, or should have. It might flow from there.

I agree with @SnipSnip. The pergect phrase may hit you in a week, so write the rest.
