Have you ever had a problem fix itself on its own?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24986points) August 8th, 2023

My bedroom lightbulb burnt out, and I was upset that It would be a big deal. I just touched it and it went back on.

I was grateful that I didn’t have to open it and sacrifice my lamp bulb for my bedroom light.

What is a similar situation that fixed itself; With minimal effort?

This may have worked this time but the message here is that the light bulb is on its last legs.

My guess is that the bulb is traditional (incandescent) with a tungsten or other filament. When the filament is about to burn out, parts of one end may become loose from the electrode to which it is attached. Your touching the bulb jostled it just enough to cause the filament to connect temporarily.

I hate to break it to you, but that bulb is on the way out…

I’ve had an incandescent light bulb fix itself once. The filament broke but sprung back to make a connection when I unscrewed the bulb. I carefully screwed it back in and used it for a few months.

Update My lightbulb burnt out permanently this week. I had no trouble replacing it with an unused lamp lightbulb.
