It’s coming to my town, and I will probably go see it. If you have seen it, what did you think? What did you like or dislike about it?

I saw it 12 years ago and remember enjoying it although I didn’t think it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. If you like musicals, you’ll probably enjoy it although I can’t say that any songs have stuck with me.
I do not care for musicals. Even less so a mormon musical.
You should watch Battlestar Galactica instead.
I don’t know your taste, so I can’t say for sure.
I will say that my teenage grandson – who is quite knowledgeable about musical theater – LOVED the Book of Mormon.
I loved it, but it was shockingly un-PC. Like I gasped in shock several times. I think I’ve seen it twice, many years apart.
It was made by the creators of South Park which may explain the un-PCness.
We’ve seen it a few times, on Broadway in NYC and elsewhere. It’s funny, irreverent and has catchy tunes. I think you’ll enjoy it.
I was disappointed with the musical “Book of Mormon”.
I’m well aware of all the problems with the Book of Mormon (BOM). I’ve read it completely and have taken notes on many aspects in it that are inconsistent with reality (just made up out of thin air by Joseph Smith).
The musical missed out on capitalizing on some of the outrageous and crazy things that supposedly took place that were written in the BOM.
But for those that know nothing about the BOM, I suppose the musical could be funny and entertaining.
I thought it was hilarious. The tunes were catchy and made the show fun (although not ones you would sing the next day).
The performance I saw in London around 11 years ago was great. It was entertaining and funny.
I thought it was hilarious and the tunes were catchy. I’ve spent a lot of time in community theater doing non-musical plays and am not one to listen to show tunes, but I listened to those.
There’s a blasphemous part that is super gratutitous—that was probably the most difficult thing about it for me. It also satirizes Mormon dogma very cleverly, but in a way that will generate body heat for any true believer of any organized religion (much as Monty Python’s Life of Brian did).
I also liked that the script calls for a diverse cast.
I’d see it again, and I’d see a local production of it if one every came out.
Very helpful. Thank you and GA’s for everyone.
If you go, let us knowwhat you thought of it.
