Thanks for asking.
I’m safe on Oahu.
I have very dear friends with family in Lahaina who lost everything. It’s devastating.
We are all grieving. Lahaina was an icon.
If anyone is inclined to donate to the recovery, I can highly recommend doing a quick search for Hawaii Community Foundation, a rock-solid local organization.

@Hawaii_Jake Been thinking about you a LOT!!! I couldn’t remember which island you live on. I am sooo sorry for your friends & EVERYBODY else affected by this disaster. Also, THANK YOU for the link as I was looking for a good place to donate & I don’t trust finding an honest one by just searching on the internet myself!!!
As of 2:00PM Hawaii Time on 10 August: 53 confirmed deaths. The governor says the number will rise.
I just found out that the government of Maui County is directing people to donate to Hawaii Community Foundation’s Maui Strong fund or the Maui United Way. You can use the link above in my first post.
Thank you for checking in @HawaiiJake. I posted the link on my FB. I’m glad you are safe and sound, and so sorry for your friends <3
I was just able to confirm that HCF does not take any administrative funds off the top of donations to the Maui Strong Fund. 100% of your donation goes to fire victims and relief efforts.
^^ Don’t know about there, but here United Way takes 90% administrative fees on every cent received. I can only imagine that it doesn’t change much there. THANKS again for a reputable choice!!!
@LadyMarissa not true ! !
“For every dollar donated to United Way, 85 cents goes to our mission.”
“Overhead rates vary at local United Ways. In the U.S, the local United Way network-wide overhead rate is 14.5%, which is well below industry standards. United Way helps hundreds of other nonprofits maintain low overhead rates, too.”

I’m glad you’re safe and sound but I’m so sorry for your friends.
As of Sunday morning, 89 confirmed deaths. So tragic.
My friend with family in Lahaina reported this morning that all are accounted for and safe.

The official death toll is 114, but the FBI has vetted a list of the missing that numbers 850. I am sick at my stomach.
