Why are bananas so cheap?
They go all across half of the planet and only cost $0.50 per single banana in my stores.
What are some other foods that are a great price?

They weren’t always. Read this book about some really ugly massacres in the history of bananas.
Also this wikipedia article about the Banana Wars in the late 1800s.
As for now: It’s all about supply and demand.
Thanks @elbanditoroso My library doesn’t have it. I don’t want to add to my pile of unread books. I will read the Wikipedia article later.
They are asexual, thus produce a lot of fruit per tree, and low labor costs.
Grapes and watermelon are also fairly cheap usually here.
The short answer is “utter ruthlessness.” They were introduced at a low price to generate interest, and they’ve stayed so cheap because people won’t accept anything else anymore. If you can’t read the book that @elbanditoroso recommended, you could try listening to this podcast episode.
@Irukandji I don’t feel comfortable accepting cookies.
I’m not interested in the topic anymore. I got the jist of the topic.
Thanks anyway.
You don’t have to listen on that site. If you listen to podcasts, just open whatever app you use and find the show Throughline. The episode title is “There Will be Bananas.”
@RedDeerGuy1 You must not go to many sites. I don’t know of any that don’t have cookies… the more honest one ask if you accept. You can accept and then clean your computer. No biggie.
Speaking of bananas
It’s time to remind people of the hilarious Woody Allen movie bananas(film) (made before the scandal).
It’s a comedy – hilarious – but some of the scenes are filmed in the Puerto Rican jungle, in the banana fields, which makes it topical here. Directed by Woody Allen and starring Allen, Louise Lasser, and Carlos Montalban.
@smudges I don’t know my passwords or many usernames. If I clear off my data I will lose Fluther.
When I get a new phone I will write my passwords/usernames in my scribbler.
