Will you be watching the non-debate tonight?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33549points) August 23rd, 2023

I won’t waste the time. I expect it to be an anti-Biden and anti-woke Hate Fest, with a sprinkling of Trumpilaciousness thrown in.

I can read about it tomorrow morning.

Do you plan to watch the so-called debate tonight?

I will not be watching it.
I have nothing for Nikki Haley, but I am really glad trump isn’t in the debate abusing her like he did Hilary Clinton simply because she was a woman. Making a comment about her menstrual cycle during a debate. What an ass!!

I tend to never watch the debates, they are just big publicity grabs. Ugh.

jca2's avatar

No. I’ll be streaming other things and I’ll read about the debate tomorrow, and probably will see lots of clips on the news.

JLeslie's avatar

I want to see it. I’ll set it to record, but most likely I will watch it in real time or close to it.

They’ll do things like not answer questions asked, constantly trying to push whatever they want to say. Annoying.

I don’t like “only” watching other people’s interpretations of political speeches or debates with edited clips.

zenvelo's avatar

Nope. If I want to watch re-runs, I’d rather watch “Big Bang” instead of “Big Nothing”.

Is this guy a coward or a realist? new story

Doug Burgrum, governor of one of the Dakotas, pulled a leg playing basketball last night. He’s running one of the last, because no one has ever heard of him.

I wonder if this is a well-planned, face-saving injury.

I’m torn. I might have it on in the background if I have nothing better to do, but if not, I’m sure I’ll see clips on Twitter.

filmfann's avatar

I like to be informed about such things, but probably not.

KNOWITALL's avatar

I likely will. I do enjoy a good verbal sparring. :) And I enjoy them pointing out eachother’d faults, especially with DeSantis antics.

jonsblond's avatar

No. I’d probably have more fun watching the Kardashians and I can’t stand the Kardashians.

27k watching on youtube

I might if someone offers me a big bag of nachos and a large Coke for free.

For months I’ve believed Nikki Haley will grab a lot of the female Republican and Independent vote, and this debate is reinforcing my feelings on that.

JLeslie's avatar

Now, I’m watching MSNBC and already some of the spin is starting, although I agree with some of their analysis too.

I’m glad I watched the entire debate.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Christie was great. Nikki is good, too, but I’m not sure the party will elect a woman at this point since many feel we’re in crisis.

JLeslie's avatar

I liked Christie too. I think he has a chance to beat Biden. I think he’s right that some Democrats and plenty of Independents would vote for him.

During the debate I really started to feel like I wish the Democrats had someone besides Biden. I hadn’t been obsessed with that idea before the debate. If Nikki winds up the candidate I think she will do amazingly well in a debate against Biden.

I like Asa, but I don’t see the Republican party pushing him forward.

All of them trouble me on some of the issues, but that’s no surprise.

DeSantis and Pence were too worried about getting their trigger one-liners in. Annoying.

elbanditoroso's avatar

One news report I read – Washington Post – noted that DeSantis’ appearance was an utter failure. Too many strong personalities talking over him, and he didn’t even get a chance to make his point(s), whatever they were.

Me: So glad I didn’t watch TV last night.

chyna's avatar

^Apparently one of his points is keeping boys in the boy’s bathroom and girls in the girls bathroom. Wow, so many other huge and pressing issues and he’s worried about bathrooms.

janbb's avatar

@chyna Florida recently passed a law that college staff can be fired if they don’t enforce bathroom separation at state colleges and universities!

jca2's avatar

@janbb Florida seems so punitive. I heard on the news that teachers in Florida are terrified of the whole LGBTQ thing, having to be stifled, of saying the wrong thing and getting prosecuted.

zenvelo's avatar

@janbb I wonder what they do in the dorms, where we regularly had the other gender using bathrooms during a party.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@JLeslie Asa scares me as much as Pence. And he supposedly is in with the klan. Even though he’s anti-Trump, he’s also anti abortion and anti LGBTQ. Many call him a RINO.

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL Thank you for telling me that. I saw Asa in some interviews and he seemed fairly rational. He has a strong law background and if I remember correctly I heard him speaking out against all of this Republican talk that is anti-FBI. In my opinion the anti-FBI messaging is VERY purposeful so domestic terrorists chip awayat the very part of our policing officials who monitor them.

I don’t know very much about Asa though, so if I were voting in the primary I certainly would research him and all of them more. I can’t vote in the Republican primary in my state, and I don’t intend to change parties to do it.

Pence is way way too far to the Religious Right for me, I am sure that doesn’t surprise you. What bothers you about Pence? I assume it is his anti-gay stance, I know you care a lot about protecting the minority communities, and not leaving them subject to very hurtful and harmful rhetoric. I’m glad Pence at least is telling the truth about the interaction between him and Trump regarding Jan 6.

filmfann's avatar

I am sorry to say I watched the GOP debate. What a bunch of morons.
Ramaswamy and DeSantas are idiots. Christie and Nikki Haley are the least objectionable, and they are both wrong on so many things.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@JLeslie Of course the gay conversion he supports, anti-LGBTQ legislation, more restrivctive abortion with no exceptions, didnt allow any refugees in his state and tried to cut all aid for refugees.
In most polls he’s less than 8%, either Trump fans think he has no backbone or loyalty, whilee others consider his personal finances and religious beliefs to be over the top. Remember he doesnt take meetings with females unless his wife is present. Its all too weird.
To me he’s another white male who considers anyone else beneath him. Not ever getting my vote.

Blackwater_Park's avatar

Gambling sites tend to have pretty good predictions for things like this. Much better than “polls” They have the odds in favor of Biden, but on the Republican side they show Trump and then Desantis way behind. All the others don’t even come close at the moment. I think right now we are in for a repeat this election cycle.
