Mitt has announced he will not run for re-election to the Senate. Could he try to get the GOP nomination?
What problems would he encounter?

His main problem is that the party has sprinted so far to the extreme right that he is now a defacto Rino Communist in the eyes of the republican base.
Consider that he was one of only 7 republicans who voted to convict the Orangutan in his second impeachment trial.
Yes. I don’t think he’s interested and I respect that decision.
I don’t think he would even try. If he did I think it would be as an Independent.
Hogan would be a candidate for Independent too, but I don’t know if he would try.
I think that he can still run; however, I don’t think that he wants to!!! He said While I’m not running for reelection, I’m not retiring from the fight. I think he is fed up with the Republican party & can no longer support them. If he retires, he won’t have to worry about pissing off his base. He can attack 45 without fear of retribution. He did say that he would be filling out his term which means he will still be in office until January 2025. He’s 76 years old & I’m sure he’s tired of the BS.
Senator Mitt Romney of Utah, the 2012 Republican nominee for president who made a historic break with his party when he voted to remove former President Donald J. Trump from office, announced on Wednesday that he would not seek re-election in 2024, saying he wanted to make way for a “new generation of leaders.”
That’s the first paragraph of the article, seems pretty clear.
I think Romney’s presidential ship has sailed. Even if we ignore the MAGA turn of the GOP, Romney was never all that popular with Republicans. If Donald Trump announced he was dropping out tomorrow, Romney still wouldn’t be the nominee most likely.
Romney is one of those politicians who always felt like a used-car salesman.
Article says he thinks Biden and Trump should both step aside but he doesn’t think McConnell should. I think all three of them should.
I had occasion to meet and chat with Mitt Romney at two separate holiday parties. His family were friends with friends of ours. He was incredibly nice, very well spoken, and clearly intelligent. I would describe him as genuine and while I don’t agree with many of his political views, he may be one of the last ‘old school’ republicans who you can disagree with, but respect him to some degree. Compared to what passes for right-wing politicians today, he’s downright moderate. This is, in my experience, typical for Massachusetts Republicans. Despite being a very blue state, we have a history of Republican governors who actually did well. Mitt is in that vein.
And no, I don’t think he’ll ever run again. He’s fed up with the modern GOP, and they have no use for him either.
He is VERY much promoting his new biography. He is stomping on Republican toes like crazy even outing a Senator from Maine who warned him of danger on J6 before it happened. If all else fails, he will give Jack Smith enough names to finish getting the goods on 45. He was NEVER a great Republican, but he seems to be going out with a bang while remaining loyal to his brand of the Republican party before MAGA ruined it!!!
With his age and financial situation he is wise to hang up his hat and retire. Get away from all the BS and go enjoy life.
@LadyMarissa He did not write the new book about him. I don’t know if he profits from book sales.
