What do you think?

What do you think will happen in the weeks and months following Hamas being gutted? Assuming they will be destroyed.

Palestinians are also not monolithic thinkers. Some will be happy when Hamas is gone, others will be sad and motivated to go on fighting.

Islam – unlike practically every other religion – believes that martyrdom is something to strive for as a goal. This is a motivating factor – death as a means of glorifying Allah.

So the more religious Palestinians will see this as a reason to continue to fight and die.

I don’t understand that religious philosophy.

I don’t think the Palestinians have much to celebrate. A population that’s been the victim of land dispossession, occupation, racism, brutality, and terror by a state that’s engaging in a slow-motion ethnic cleansing to wipe them out. As history has shown time and again, putting a group of people in such circumstances for generations will result in the oppressed forming groups to fight back (e.g. the Maccabees). Often these group go on to commit heinous acts of retribution as is the case with Hamas. Some among the oppressed may cheer those acts as a “you’re finally getting a taste of what we suffer with every day” sense of eye-for-eye justice, but these people aren’t happy and there’s no justice in violence.
