November first is Dia De Muertos. May I request A Fluther inclusion?

Asked by Patty_Melt (17519points) October 14th, 2023

I occasionally bump into a question or answer where I see a jelly who is no longer with us.
I’m thinking it would be nice to honor and enjoy jellies past on Nov. 1 by posting below messages we’d like to send to them, and/or memories, links, etc.
I’m posting this now, so most of us have time to notice it before the day comes.

Awww…I love it. There are several whose answers I run across and it makes me sad that they’re gone…really gone. There are others who I wonder/worry about because they haven’t been around for a long time.

I made a suggestion about ten years ago that Fluther have a graveyard where we could have former Jellies and was told there are no improvements being made to the site (yes, I know, have heard that many times) but it is a clever thought, and your suggestion is a great one, @Patty_Melt.

I was googling to try to find my question, and I found this one, which is not what the question today is, but I thought it would be fun to see the prior Jellies that we miss so much (like the always helpful Augie, may she RIP) on this and the 2012 (above) one:

GQ. I suck at online names but there are several I miss often. RIP.
-I hope others no longer participating here are doing well too.

Here’s a partial pantheon of those who have passed: https://www.fluther.com/users/Requiescant_In_Pace/

janbb's avatar

Not on that list is our dear Auggie, Augustlan – Community manager extraordinaire. She managed to crack the whip gently and rule with an iron but very fair hand. She is greatly missed by Fluther, her friends and her daughters.

Yellow Dog passed away.

smudges's avatar

I remember a mod telling us that, I believe it was Yellowdog, who actually visited Fluther on the day he died. I thought that was quite special.

LuckyGuy's avatar

Two that immediately come to mind are:
Unbroken and johnpowell
I thought of her yesterday when I was picking up black walnut droppings. She wanted black walnut seed pods so she could experiment. I sent her a box of a couple hundred. I hope there is a black walnut tree growing in Alaska now.

I think of johnpowell every time I walk past my barn and see the giant disk of wood he planned to make into a clock.

smudges's avatar

I didn’t know him, but I was thinking john65pennington passed away…? Maybe not since Neptune is up and I don’t think the mods delete those who have passed.

Kardamom's avatar

Adirondackwannabe was wise, and funny, and kind. I miss his measured and compassionate conversation.

Auggie was the patron saint of Fluther.

janbb's avatar

@smudges I had thought he just left but I’m not sure.

I remember Everphebe died – I believe he was Daniel and Tim Trueman’s brother.

LuckyGuy's avatar

Does anyone know if Adagio is still around?
She was a ray of sunshine.

janbb's avatar

@LuckyGuy I liked her a lot but I don’t know anything current.

LuckyGuy's avatar

Her bio is beautiful.

janbb's avatar

@LuckyGuy It is stunning.

jca2's avatar

@LuckyGuy that’s an example of why it’s great if those who want to, would share their other contact info with at least one person here. That way, if they disappear for a long time, someone could get in touch with them or attempt to get in touch with them and find out if they’re ok, just taking a break or something more dire.

I know a bunch of us are in touch elsewhere, including social media, but a bunch aren’t and there are some who just disappear and nobody knows.

Even though we may disagree vehemently sometimes, we are kind of like a family here.

Does anyone know about what happened to Mr. Bromide from AnswerBag? He thought that his life wasn’t worth living if he didn’t become a rich computer programmer.

LuckyGuy's avatar

@jca2 I agree with you completely!

MrGrimm888's avatar

Well I miss everyone…
I will shout out for a legend.

EC. The crow pirate was a massive loss…May he RIP…

Strauss's avatar

@Brian1946 It’s ironic that @Requiescant_In_Pace was actually a much-beloved jelly that went by the username of @Espiritus_Corvus

chyna's avatar

I also miss Whatthefluther or WTF. A very loved member of our community.

snowberry's avatar

What a lovely idea @Patty_Melt!

I notice chelle21689 has not logged in in about a year.

rebbel's avatar

Gailcalled.
If only….

janbb's avatar

@rebbel If only. She was the wise old mother of us all.

KNOWITALL's avatar

I don’t remember his user name here but Tim Cook from our Tide Pool fb page passed. He was a big fan of @Dutchess_III and several other jellies. RIP

janbb's avatar

^^He was No_More with various endings. That’s very sad!

KNOWITALL's avatar

@janbb Yes, thank you. I’m glad we got to know him.

jonsblond's avatar

^I’m close friends with Tim on Facebook. He’s always active on my timeline. This is the first I’m hearing about this. I’m crying. :(

jca2's avatar

OMG how sad. I didn’t know he died. I know he was writing a few months ago about being sick. I am friends with him on FB but didn’t know he died. He was funny and fun.

jca2's avatar

I just read the obit on Facebook for NoMore. Very sad. Too young to die.

LuckyGuy's avatar

I think this is good time to view this beautiful, 3 minute,video: Dia De Los Muertos

So well done. I tear up every time I see it.

@Patty_Melt Thank you fro bringing this up.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@jonsblond I’m sorry. I just saw it and was shocked as well. I re-read some of our messagea and it comforted me. Hugs.

smudges's avatar

@LuckyGuy That was very good! Two thumbs up, and I favorited the channel for future fun. I regularly watch The Rabbids!

Jeruba's avatar

Nomore_Tantrums is gone? I’m so sorry.

in addition to those named above, especially Gail and Lisa, I’m thinking now of @cak, @whatthefluther, @ever_ephebe, and @darth,...oh please remind me.

janbb's avatar

@Jeruba darth_alger

Jeruba's avatar

@janbb, yes, thanks! I found him: Darth_Algar.

So lucky that you can fill in some of these new holes in my memory.

smudges's avatar

I didn’t know the others @Jeruba mentioned, but how could I not think of Darth?! Thank you @Jeruba; it’s been 2½ years since he left our annie. Positive thoughts to you, annie! ♡

jca2's avatar

Another deceased Jelly that I just thought of, that I was friends with on FB but I couldn’t remember his name on here, was Ibstubro.

janbb's avatar

@jca2 That was his name here.

jca2's avatar

@janbb Yes, I know. I had to search on Facebook because he’s my friend there to see what his Fluther name was. I knew his real name but had to research to find his Jelly name.

Brian1946's avatar

@MrsDufresne was a very nice, non-confrontational lady.

She, Hawaii_Jake, RedDeerGuy1, and I were part of the Answerbag migration of December, 2009.

She was only here for about a year, when she posted what turned out to be her farewell forever thread:
https://www.fluther.com/108217/what-would-you-do-serious-medical-question/ :-(

If you browse the thread, you might notice one of JPowell’s alternate usernames.

Jeruba's avatar

@Brian1946, would that be Not_the_CIA?

LuckyGuy's avatar

One more: @anartist.
She made my avatar just before she passed.

janbb's avatar

@LuckyGuy I remember her! She was very intelligent.

@Jeruba I think you’re right.

Also, wasn’t there a ubersiren, a woman, who was very sick and I think died.

Brian1946's avatar

@Jeruba

I also think you’re right.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Oh. Wow. I’m crying

Dutchess_III's avatar

I don’t want to call it a “graveyard” tho.

smudges's avatar

We could call it the Bygone Bedroom.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Bygone Tidepool?

MrGrimm888's avatar

They are the mist, on the water of our pond. The most beautiful part…..

jonsblond's avatar

@KNOWITALL I created a Facebook group called Wisconsin Nature Lovers three years ago. Tim was a founding member. I think he was the first to join and he responded positively to all the contributions to the group. I was just looking at the group and saw some of his posts. <3

RocketGuy's avatar

What happened to: @jerv, @ETpro, and @mattbrowne? They haven’t posted in a long time.

janbb's avatar

@ETPro just left Fluther a while ago; I don’t know about the other two.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@RocketGuy I think @jerv went to tide pool party.
