What aid did the Israeli government extend to the United States after 9/11?

Asked by canidmajor (21583points) October 16th, 2023

Having a discussion with friends and wondering this, my googling abilities have let me down, because of recent news filling up all the space allotted to appropriate search words.
Can anyone share some links, please?

General question, very specific, there are already many Qs dealing with the current conflict.

I tried the simple search options, and I tried asking “What countries gave aid to the US after 9/11?” Nothing. All the entries that came up were about how foreign aid that the US gives changed after 9/11.

Yeah, it’s, apparently, a tough question.

I googled “Did Israel help the US after 9/11” and got this:

The thought occurred to me that perhaps foreign governments gave aid directly to New York State. I searched for “Do foreign government give aid directly to individual US states?”, and again the answers were all about aid the US federal government gives out.

When I googled what I wrote above, there are all kinds of links and articles to click on, like for example one from The Heritage Foundation, but I didn’t click on any reports other than the Wiki link (above).

Thanks, guys. My wording must have been too narrow or specific, I didn’t even get the wiki article.

Did any foreign countries offer aid to the us after the attack which was declined by the us?

To piggy back the wiki link, Israel often responds to earthquakes and situations where buildings come down and people are caught under rubble. They have teams highly trained in that. In the wikipedia article it didn’t say if the Israelis actually came to the US. The way I interpreted it, Israel was ready to respond.

First responders realized quickly that there were very few injured or trapped people. My sister had to respond to be at the ER (she’s a nurse and did not work at the hospital, but that is protocol in NYC) and the doctors and nurses within a few hours realized people either got out or died. The worst had happened they weren’t busy at the ER.

Did they send help during Katrina?

The sort of “aid” that Israel provided is probably not the sort of thing that either side will make public for a very long time.

It should also be mentioned that it is known that Mosad (Israeli intelligence) provided the US with a list of nineteen names they believed were planning an attack on the US in August 2001. Not all the names on the list are known but those that are were involved in 9/11.

In the end, no one really sent assistance to the US, however NATO did invoke Article 5 which says an attack against any NATO signatory is considered an attack against all NATO signatories. And if you remember, several countries helped attack Afghanistan, going after bin-Laden. Israel, however, is not part of NATO. The link @jca2 provided shows that Israel immediately condemned the attacks and got rescue forces ready to go to the US as soon as the US gave permission.

So, they sent thoughts and prayers?
I think @Lightlyseared got it right. Probably intelligence.
