Have you ever woken up from a funny dream laughing?

Asked by Pandora (32398points) October 28th, 2023

This morning I woke up in such a great mood even though I forgot what my dream was about. I woke up laughing and remembered my dream and thought it was the funniest thing ever. I wanted to jot it down and convince myself I would just lay still for a moment and of course, I fell back to sleep. I don’t remember but I woke up later feeling still so cheerful. I wish I could remember the dream. I thought it would be a great basis for a comedy movie.

I’ve had that experience too.

Has this happened to you more than once? It still feels so bizarre. Usually, nightmares or sad dreams can wake me, but I’ve never had a dream wake me because I found it hysterical and actually laughed myself awake. But heck, I am always grateful for the good times that make me chuckle.

I’ve laughed myself awake on a number of occasions – probably 10 or so. I can usually remember the basics of the dream. They’re usually about someone who I’m close to who has passed away and it’s wonderful to “see” them and share a giggle. I thank them and think of them often during the next few days.

I also hiccup myself awake, and omg is that annoying! I’ve learned over the years that I just have to get up and eat a cracker or have a gulp of oj or something because they won’t go away on their own. That’s happened at least 25–30 times.

I also woke myself up crying once because I didn’t want to wake up to another day of drinking. That was the beginning of the end of quitting for good.

I am a very vivid dreamer. Technicolor dreams. I wake from all sorts or whacky dreams including awaking to laughter to tears.
I do have a dream journal at my bedside to transcribe before I forget them.
Lately I have bee dreaming melodies. I use a recorder to try to hum the melody before it is gone and play it on the piano that day.

@smudges and @Forever_Free I’ve had a wide range of dreams and some amusing but not so funny as to wake up laughing. I’ll just find something amusing or silly, but not wake up because it was so funny. On occasion, dreams are very vivid and those seem to happen close to needing to wake up but they always seem to be dreams that convince me I’m awake when I am not. My mind can push back hard on the alarm. It’s why I usually set more than one if I have somewhere to be. I have had nightmares where I woke up crying. Usually seeing someone or something hurt, like a small animal or someone I love. But this was a first. I’ve never seen anyone wake up laughing either, so I thought that doesn’t happen. @smudges I know that dreams can be your minds way of helping through a problem. I’m glad that your dreams proved helpful to making you healthier.

I have, quite a few times—probably somewhere over 20. My husband used to complain that it woke him up and sounded really weird. Then he would insist on knowing what was so funny. Either I couldn’t stop laughing, with the (usually utterly ridiculous) image or scene still actively present in my mind, or if managed to tell him, he didn’t see the humor at all, which only made me laugh all the more. Then I’d have a hard time going back to sleep because I kept on giggling. Now and then I’d hear a grumpy “Stop it!” Who wouldn’t laugh?

I’ve not had a funny dream or a nightmare for a long time now and for a while my dreams were all in black and white. I missed the vivid colours of my dreams and I’m glad they have resumed in full technicolour, but still no humour.

Yep. :-)

No, but I do wake up apologizing.

Absolutely. I try to remember the situation but, alas, it is as fleeting as my memory for correct French pronoun usage.

@LuckyGuy Let alone prepositions and verb tenses.
