Is it just me or does it seem like Mac and Cheese is kid food?

Homemade mac n cheese is a dish that appeals to all ages. Homemade often has many different cheeses and tastes amazing. The stuff from the box is loved by kids and adults who are looking for a nostalgic hit.

Yeah, but if ya slice up a hot dog in it, it turns it into high class.

That used to be the case, 10–15 years ago.

It is now considered normal cuisine at casual sit-down restaurants; chefs can be very creative at what goes into (and on top of) the mac & cheese.

Visit some yuppie-level restaurants and you’ll see what I mean. (If you were in Atlanta, I could give you several alternatives, but alas…)

Mac & Cheese isn’t just for kids anymore.

My wife and I make what we call our $40 mac-and-cheese. There’s a crispy panko crust on top and a bunch of great cheeses including fontina, tagliatelle, gouda, and a few others. It’s amazing but also pretty “adult.”

I make a homemade mac and cheese that is crispy on top and just delicious. Kraft is for kids and my French older kid when he is feeling nostalgic.

I think mac and cheese is a side dish for adults, but can be a main dish for kids. Really good mac and cheese is amazing.

If you have a J. Alexander’s restaurant near you their mac and cheese is amazing. multiple cheeses and panko type bread crumbs browned on top. Probably most young children wouldn’t like it.

Real homemade mac and cheese is just as worthwhile as fettucine alfredo and I don’t think people question that as an adult food. I guess maybe adults can eat the mac and cheese as a main dish if they can eat a bowl of alfredo, but it is too much for me.

My husband and I even sometimes make Velveeta shells in my house. There is nothing more plastic than Velveeta. Ha! We usually doctor it up with some extra pasta, peas, and sometimes I add meat to it.

It’s a favorite of many people. When I make my own, it’s like Mom’s in the kitchen with me again.

It’s definitely not kid food.

I think the crap in a box for a dollar may be kid food, but real mac and cheese is definitely not kid food.
