Do you ever not answer a knock on your door?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24986points) December 21st, 2023

I used to snap to every time.
I even take baths/showers off of business hours, just in case someone knocks.

What weird things do you do?

Humor welcome.

ALL the time!!! Anybody that knows me, knows to call & tell me they are on their way over or I don’t open the door. As an elderly, disabled widow who lives alone, I feel it is dangerous to open the door to just anybody.

Nobody ever knock on my door. My principle house is on a mountain ridge. Anybody who makes it is supposed to be here and lets themselves in.
If anyone knocks then they have given themselves away that they are not supposed to be there or are lost hikers.
My Secondary property is on an Island. I have been going there for years. Everybody knows everyone on an Island.

My husband acts like it’s terrorists and I always answer. Very silly. The other nigjt a neighbor knocked around 7:30pm while I was doing a few dishes so he yelled at me that ‘someone’s at the door.’ It was a pound of smoked pulled pork. Haha!

Regularly.

All the time.
I have a “NO SOLICITING” sign on the front door. Everybody who knows me knows that if they want me, they must use my back (side) door that is through the car port.

People knocking on the door are 95% solicitors and 5% my neighbor needing help with something. If I’m home I check the cam and see who it is. If I don’t know the person I will not answer.

@kritiper I put a no soliciting sign on my apartment door about 6 months ago and it has made a huge difference! In Maryland, it’s actually technically against the law for solicitors to come to your door if you have a sign posted.

But in general, I don’t come to my door unless I know it’s an instacart or doordash order, or my tracking has showed that it’s an Amazon package on the way. And of course if I have family or friends over, then I know they’re coming and then I get the door.

We had two German Shepard Black Lab cross (brother and sister) when a local church group came to the door. I opened the inside door and had my hand on the glass door, told the two dogs to “sit and stay”, I opened the glass door and everybody scattered. I don’t have many solicitors visit !

Haha…unless I’m expecting someone, I rarely answer the door. I’ll check the Nest cam first. :P
