Well, my stuff has been arriving beat to hell and late. I am cancelling.

If they sent it to me, I missed it. I’m NOT surprised. Netflix started it & all the others are jumping on the bandwagon. I have too much tied up in my prime to cancel, Since I cut the cord, I’ve been watching ads on most of the free channels. I treat them like noisy children & tune them out until they get quiet again!!! I don’t find them that annoying.

Prime does not pay. Anymore

I’ve been considering cancelling my membership for a few months to see how I do without it. I know I can still order things from them and they used to have free shipping with a 25 dollar minimum. I don’t know if they still have that but it was very do-able before I became a Prime member about 10 years ago. I might try to go back to that. Honestly I don’t watch too much of their videos. I have Hulu and Disney Plus and Netflix and HBO so I don’t think I’d miss Prime Video too much.

I agree they’re just so greedy.

^They’ve raised the minimum for free shipping to $35. Then when you get to the checkout, it defaults to paid shipping, and you have to manually choose free shipping, while avoiding the free shipping option that makes you join Prime. I don’t buy too much from Amazon anymore, but there are a few things they have that are ridiculously expensive on other sites.

I don’t remember getting any notification about this but I like Prime and so far it has been a very good deal for me with free shipping and a choice of interesting programmes available for free.
I don’t mind adverts on Amazon when I am buying something as the adverts are generally relevant to what I am interested in but putting adverts on films could be a deal breaker.

The adverts will be on the streaming service @flutherother. I’m not sure what I’ll do.

Yes. I signed up for the $3.00 additional fee to avoid advertising.

I think they would have been smarter to offer the Prime with ads at a slight discount rather than make you pay more for what you already have. I have Hulu with ads for $2.00 less per month than without it.

I canceled two months ago. Looks like I was just in time!

I am not using amazon to watch things, so it does not really affect me.

Amazon should give the option to not get ads if you don’t watch any of the stuff they produced. The only Amazon produced shows I enjoyed were Lost Boys Season 1 and 2 and Reacher. Their Lord of the Rings is a total piece of crap. Lol

While I know it can’t fully replace the subscription services, my family has started using Emby to replicate the streaming experience. It’s a free program that lets you load all of your digital media onto a server and access it through your television using the same kind of interface as the paid services. It’s basically a way of creating your own local Netflix or Prime or whatever.

When you compare the cost of these services to the cost of occasionally buying a DVD to add it to your collection, it comes out looking pretty good. You can’t get anything that is exclusive to any of the subscription services (unless you’re willing to sail the seven seas). But in our experience, it matches or exceeds the convenience of online streaming.

There’s also an open-source fork of Emby called Jellyfin, which seems appropriate to mention here.

I received an email about this yesterday. I will have to pay £2.99 a month for ad free films. I’m not going to pay it and I will reappraise after 6 months or so. £2.99 is a good bit more than $2.99. I may end up cancelling the whole shebang.
