A sigma male is a variant of the selfproclaimed Alpha male, who can get no bitches, but pretends that this is actually his active choice. This also makes them a variant of Incel.

It is apparently what people now use describe a certain personality type. What I have read is it appears to be from people attempting to describe a stoic individual in the old philosophy sense.

“Sigma people” (or more properly, “sigma practitioners’) refers to psychologists and psychoanalysts that follow Sigmund Freud’s treatment teachings to address and cure psychological neuroses. Sigma comes from a scientificization of Freud’s first name.

Freudian psychoanalysis, the better known treatment approach, was most common early in Freud’s career, when he was developing and perfecting his theories on dreams and perception.

Later practitioners improved on the original Freudian treatment approaches and worked with additional ameliorative approaches, which had a somewhat more successful reception on the part of patients. Outcomes where better.

This later approach practiced by ‘Sigma people’ or ‘Sigma practitioners’ leverages not only dreams (Freudian) but also address patient issues by examining their writings and personal utterances as indicators of patient state-of-mind. As such, it gives a clearer picture of patient needs and potential therapy approaches.

@elbanditoroso I don’t think that’s what RedDeerGuy1 is referring to.

“Sigma personality” is a term used to describe a set of traits typical of someone who is confident, ambitious and strong, but who is also highly independent and enjoys spending time alone. Sigmas are characterized by their independence, self-reliance, and ability to thrive without relying heavily on social interactions. Unlike other personality types, Sigmas draw their strength and power primarily from within themselves rather than external social structures.

Sigma is the name of a letter of the Greek alphabet. I don’t think it has anything to do with Sigmund. @elbanditoroso, can you cite a source?

Its a made up category of the alpha / beta personality theory that was based on a faulty and subsequently disproven animal behaviour study of wolves.

It’s about as insightful as a Buzzfeed quiz that categorizes humans into different flavors of Starbucks syrup.
