Is it possible to learn more than one language at a time?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24945points) January 21st, 2024

I am taking free French lessons from Duolingo, for 15 minutes each day.

I am wondering if I could add a second language, or to spend more time on French lessons? Or keep things the same way?

I would stay with one language at a time, but I have a short attention span, so that’s just my opinion for me.

YES, it is “possible”. Still, for the best results, I’d stick with one language at a time to maximize my brain power!!!

Is there a way you could spend half an hour on Duolingo for French? Fifteen minutes seems a bit short.

@LostInParadise Yes. I will try that. Thanks.

We had english and french at the same time. With latin as an optional third.

For a year in high school I took both (second-year) Latin and (first-year) German. For a semester in college, I took both (fourth-year) German and (first-year) French. So I say yes, but it’s not the easiest way to do it.

With three years of German behind me when I started French, I often could not think of the French word, but I knew the German. The exam grader graded both German and French exams, and when I wrote the German answer on the French test, she gave me credit.

Working on learning a language is a very good exercise. Good luck with your study.
