Suggestions for an enjoyable and effective exercise?

Asked by knittingandcanning (346points) September 24th, 2008

I gave birth 5 months ago and am finally feeling the need to be active. I’m looking for any kind of exercise that is enjoyable, but would especially like to find one that helps get rid if my tummy fat. Any ideas?

Do you enjoy nature walks and being outdoors? If so, walking, jogging or biking in a local park is great! Also, if you want to tighten up your stomach, try doing some crunches daily. You can do them pre or post cardio, and everyday because the abs recover quickly. Good luck to you!

I think swimming, basketball, dancing, and tennis are all really fun to do and good exercise.

I bought my husband a wii game for father’s day this year and it has turned out to be the funnest way to exercise for the whole family.

Basp: May also be funniest.
Watching my parents play it is a hoot.

I agree the wii fit us actually fun and effective.. But if you want to get rid of your tummy, sit ups and crunches are the best

Swimming, yoga, biking, tennis. Pretty much any sport you like.

Kayaking and rowing are great for your abs and lats -not to mention your arms. You can go at any pace you need to and see some pretty sights as you go. There are places where I live that will rent you a yearly membership with certain restrictions and you can try out different kayaks all year round and don’t have to do any hauling around. It’s nice when you don’t have to worry about the time you get the boat back to them. You can be out all day or just an hour or so. Bring a small picnic and have fun.

What do you enjoy? What exercise did you do b4 you were prego/during pregnancy? And, how often?

You could try breast feeding. I know it’s not an exercise but apparantly mothers who breast feed regain their figure faster than mother’s who don’t. As a side effect it also protects baby from the following ear infections, gastro-intestinal infections chest infections, urine infections, childhood diabetes, eczema, obesity and asthma.

@lightly…I lost zero lbs. & I breast fed for 14mos, and am an active person

@Spatzie …well you’ll just have to make do with the happy warm feeling that you’ve given your baby the best start in life.

@ lightly, I do! He’s extrememly intelligent, highly verbal with any outstanding vocabulary and is a self-soother (which I attribute to the close skin contact we had for the fist year+)

I think we need to be talking diet here, not just exercise. I went on a doctor run diet to lose the baby weight (I’d tried on my own for almost 2 yrs w/no success).

Light exercise such as walking and swimming; taking bub for a walk in the park is great! Also breastfeeding as others have mentioned will help you lose the pounds. Just remember – don’t go overboard on the exercise!

I like trampoline, yoga, pilates and belly dancing. Walking in a beautiful environment is always nice, you know, parks, beach, mountains, etc.

Also, consider taking some kind of class, it might be fun to go and meet some new people.
