Can the Republicans actually be choosy on who they want in their party?

Trump doesn’t want the Romneys , or any moderate conservative if your not a die hard loyalist and kiss the ring of Trump they don’t need or want you.
Can they be this choosy at this time?

Your question begs more questions. When did Trump ever say he wants die hard loyalists that kiss his ring? Never. That is your version of things. And you describe Romney as a moderate conservative. He’s not. He’s a Democrat in Republican clothing. Always has been. And that is a big part of what’s been wrong with the Repubs for a long time. He is trying to unify the party under one flag, that is true. And it needs it.

But the same sort of logic could be applied to the Democrats. How often do Democrats vote against the majority of their party? Almost never. They are all lock-step with whatever weirdness is being put forth. So do are they choosy about who they want in their party? Or are they just coercing the ones that aren’t die hard crazies?

It took me a while, but I’m beginning to understand WHY the Reps said that their base is “too stupid to understand”!!!

No more so than Democrats and Antifa, when they hijacked the BLM riots. Anyone can claim a party and do and say whatever they like.

@seawulf575 Romney (shudder)

Both parties have some strange and unwanted bedfellows.

Why do you say Trump doesn’t want the Romneys? Romney mostly votes very conservatively. Trump wants any vote he can get.

@JLeslie Romney was the only Rep to vote to impeach Trump, for one thing. Mitt doesn’t like Trump and makes no effort to hide it, and I’ve not heard or read anything positive Trump did do gained him any traction with Mitt.

Are we talking about politicians or lay people in the party? I thought we were talking about the average voters.

At a rally in Virginia Saturday, former President Donald Trump said the ‘Make America Great Again’ movement is taking over the Republican Party, and ridding the party of people like the “Romneys.”

^^Ok then. Hopefully, the MAGA’s will self implode.

Trump’s ass has always been able to force people out of any space, whether it’s black people from their homes, everyone but self-hating supplicants from the party of Lincoln, everyone with functioning olfactory glands from an elevator. Call it a skill.

But no, they can’t afford it. It is part of many many bad moves that may result in the literal end of the ideologically bankrupt party.

Which Republican party? As I see it, there are three: The American Conservative Party (Tea Party), the old tried and true Republican party, and the party of Trump.

@kritiper Make that “the Cult of Trump.”
