What are the worst conditions that will heal on it own?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24945points) March 21st, 2024

Like a damaged fingernail?
Or worse?

Also what is treatable now then when earlier in history would be a death sentence?

In my mind, a broken heart!!!

@LadyMarissa Took me 26,523 years, and finally stopped hurting. I rotate in the different stages of grief. 24 years for my muggle answer.

Took all the kings horses, and all the Kings men, to put me back together again, so wasn’t on my own.

Heartache and abusive actions may seem like they are the worst, but need reflection and therapy to heal.

Bruises have to heal on their own.

Infections are treatable now when some of them were death sentences. Not all can be treated now, but penicillin and other antibiotics have saved millions and millions of lives. Some bacterial infections create horrible suffering.

Broken bones heal on their own if the area is stabilized. Even if not kept completely stable the bone most likely will heal, but might not heal straight.

Muscles heal.

My tear in my lung from an accident healed on its own, it was very small. I couldn’t breathe well when the tear happened, because the air escaped my lungs and was pressing on my lungs, so that was scary.

Cracked ribs and a sprain.

I feel like this is only a question one would ask under a US healthcare system.

Kinda hard to say. Everybody’s immune system is different. What I may heal from, someone else may not. I have to have something fairly serious happen physically before I go to the doctor. Examples: the bone spurs I had in my shoulders, the time I hit my finger with the hedge trimmer, the torn meniscus in my knee. Flu, colds, minor cuts and scrapes, broken toes, etc I just deal with. Even if it is something I’m not sure about and go to the doctor, if it isn’t life threatening I usually just deal with it.

I’m dealing with this such a condition right now.

I have at least 2 small, partial tears in my right rotator cuff. I’m in pain and have limited movement, although everything should heal over time and without surgery. I just need to follow a physical therapy program.

As for treatable conditions that were once death sentences, the anti-vaxxers would love to return to a time when people became gravely ill, perhaps died, from measles, mumps, rubella, polio, diptheria, tetanus, hepatitis A and B, pertussis, pneumococcal and meningococcal diseases, etc.
