Are you doing anything special for Easter, or for spring break?

Asked by jca2 (16892points) March 31st, 2024

We’re staying home today. I’ve been watching TV and I might make a veggie lasagna for dinner (creamy sauce, veggies). I gave my daughter Easter stuff but I bought so much, I am going to give chocolate away to friends when I see them this week.

I’ve been watching Columbo re-runs, and now am watching My Cousin Vinny.

We have no spring break plans, except seeing friends during the week and going to the city Friday night. I am a bit worried because there are a lot of reports about women getting punched in the face by random attackers in the city. I’ll be with my teenage daughter, and I really hope there are no incidents for us.

It’s really sunny here in the NY tri-state area, and in the 50’s. This week, it’s supposed to get chilly again, 40’s and close to freezing in the night times.

I used to follow my family’s traditions with my own kids, excepting only the church part: colorful baskets, green cellophane grass, dyed eggs, Easter-colored Hershey’s Kisses, yellow Peeps, M&Ms, chocolate bunnies, and all the rest. These customs faded a bit over time, but chocolate has staying power.

In my childhood, of course, the church part was big: fresh spring clothes, quantities of lilies and other flowers in the church, Easter hymns, a rousing sermon.

As an adult, I always recognized Easter with some special activity, usually involving food. Easter 2017 was the last time I prepared baskets (a nostalgic surprise) for my two grown sons.

This year, what with one thing and another, I made no plans. BUT…there’s still the chocolate.

We stayed home today and relaxed. No entertaining.

But my wife made homemade honey, butter, basil biscuits and I made chicken masala from scratch. Super yummy.

I go to work, like usual. There is no Easter here.

I hope everyone who has Easter has a great holiday.

I am binging 3 Body Problem, and my wife made a small turkey (to my great surprise!).

I went to zumba in the morning (I was surprised the rec centers were open where I live, I didn’t remember that from previous years) and pizza for lunch with friends. It was one of the few restaurants open that we assumed wouldn’t be crowded. We were the only ones in the place. Later in the day we got together with the same group of friends to play cards for a couple of hours.

Maybe I’ll buy some candy on sale later today, unless that now is pushed off until Tuesday? Easter Monday seems to be more of a thing now.

I just finished writing out a “Congratulations on the new baby” card and thinking what a nice time of year this is to be born.

Just came back yesterday from a Civil Rights tour of the South. It was amazing. This week is quiet.

@filmfann I just started watching 3 Body Problem and I love it! (Spoiler alert) I am really upset that they killed off Sam from Game of Thrones though. Also, they’ve got the Onion Knight and the High Sparrow on the show. I am waiting to see if they have anybody else from GOT.

I went to church as usual, but I didn’t go to the sunrise service. Too early for me! Plus I would have been cold being out in the parking lot for 45 minutes. The night before my sister messaged me out of the blue and invited me to dinner, her and her husband’s treat. Went to a place I’d never been before and it was really nice. Turns out that it’s pretty hard to find restaurants that are open on Easter in the evening. Apparently a lot of them do like a special Easter brunch but then they close for the rest of the day.
