Tips on shopping for crappy screen protectors?

Asked by capet (988points) April 5th, 2024

I’m shopping for a crappy screen protector, and I’m wondering what features or brands to look for. Maybe they’re pretty much all the same, I don’t know.

What features are most important when shopping for a crappy tempered glass screen protector?

My phone is probably worth about $30 at this point and I have a backup phone, so I’m not interested in investing a ton into protecting it. (If there even are fancy ones.)

I don’t know if you are in the US, but I got mine at TJ MAXX. It was a 3 pack for 5.99.

You do need to get one specifically for your phone.
Go to Crappy.com

I found Spigen’s Neoflex to be very good as it is sensitive enough to allow you to sign in with a fingerprint but maybe you don’t need that.

Get a cheap fake leather wallet case. It will do the job, and look stylish.

I got a phone protector from Poetic. It comes in two parts: one for the screen and the other that it fits into that protects the rest of the phone. Doesn’t make it waterproof, but it does help make it water resistant.

I don’t have a screen protector on my current phone, which is about four years old at this point, but I do have an Otterbox on it, and I’ve dropped it a few times and it’s very durable. Never cracked. Hard plastic back with a rubber rim. It makes the phone more bulky and more heavy but it’s great.

I’ve not ever found a screen protector that I liked. Most screw up the sensitivity of the screen’s touch. They crack when your screen should have & you will have the expense of buying at least 1 more protector in time. I’ve switched over to buying a TPU rubber/gel case made specifically for my phone. I usually buy a clear one so the color of my phone shows through. I have accidentally dropped my phone from about 5 feet up & my phone & screen stayed safe. The case has raised areas on all 4 corners so the screen stays protected. Best of all, most of the ones that I bought cost $7.99 or under!!! Might be pure luck but I’ve NOT cracked a screen since switching to the TPU case.

My experience is that screen protectors are unnecessary because I have cracked screens with a drop, not scratch.

A thick case would be a better investment in my eyes.

I have never crashed my phone.
