I read PG Wodehouse many decades ago and remember laughing out loud.
There is one living writer whose books make me similarly laugh out loud, and his name is Christopher Moore. He wrote Lamb: the Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Best Friend. It is hysterical. Another hilarious book is Fool, the story of King Lear’s fool. There’s a sequel to that last one called The Serpent of Venice, I think. The title might be a bit different. Again, I laughed so hard my sides hurt.
The few Tom Sharpe novels I read had me laughing a lot.
The Mouse That Roared was better in book form than the movie. And I loved M*A*S*H as a book.
Lost in the Horse Latitudes
by H. Allen Smith. read it 60 years ago .
I laughed out loud while reading Lonesome Dove. That Gus is a hoot!
I read Bored of the Rings years ago and found it pretty funny, but when I tried to read it again more recently, I guess my sense of humor had changed somewhat. There’s actually a couple of other Tolkien spoofs akin to that.
I’ve only read the first one of the series, but the Discworld books are pretty amusing.
Stephen King as a dry sense of humor even amidst the horror, so I enjoy that too. But I really only like his older novels.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
Shut Up And Eat Your Snowshoes by Jack Douglas
The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson
@LifeQuestioner Thank you for reminding me about the Discworld series. Terry Pratchett was a genius satirist and made me laugh out loud.
Catch-22 – Joseph Heller
Portnoy’s Complaint – Philip Roth
Just about anything by Terry Southern, He wrote Candy, Dr. Strangelove, and Magic Christian,
Catch-22 the first time I read it. I tried to reread it a few years ago and it wasn’t as funny for some reason.
Funniest? Hitchhikers Guide
Made me laugh the most? Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories 463 – The Mystery of the Loch
@Hawaii_Jake of course! I actually need to read a lot more of the series myself, but it seems like I always have so many books that I’m reading at the time.
Earth a visitors guide to the human race by Jon Stewart.
