Do you remember these songs?
There is a certain type of song that is kind of sappy, but is very popular for a short period of time and then pretty much disappears. Here are some songs that I think fit this description. Let me know your take.
Winchester Cathedral
Honey
My World is Blue
Eve of Destruction
Butterfly of Love

I remember #1 and #4 vividly.
I remember 1, 3, and 4. They were all over the radio, kids sang them, they were parodied, I couldn’t help hearing them, although I was not into pop. Are you asking for titles of more songs of the same type?
@ragingloli, I can’t imagine how I could have missed it.
I remember them ALL if Honey was recorded by Bobby Goldsboro & Butterfly of Love was The Elusive Butterfly of Love. I think that Glen Campbell & a few others I don’t remember did that one.
@ragingloli Sadly, I think I missed the one you linked or my dementia kicked in & I forgot it.
^^ I do remember the Elusive Butterfly of Love.
I remember them all. They’re pretty corny. They bring back memories of the time more than any enjoyment that I have for them. But I’d rather listen to music as such than music being generated nowadays.
As far as my music tastes go I think that I like the popular music of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s best.
@LostInParadise I didn’t know the title but yeah, I remember “Honey” as well. So, all of them.
I remember all except #5.
Here are my recollections of those tunes:
Winchester Cathedral- It was released in Autumn, 1966. I think it was performed by the New Vaudeville Band.
Honey, by Blobby Moldsburrow- I first heard it in Spring, 1968. I was really into progressive and edgy rock back then: Doors, Hendrix, Cream, Dylan, and the Stones. Consequently, I thought it was just sappy, AM radio flotsam.
My World Is Blue- I think it was released in Spring, 1968. The artist’s first name was Paul, and his surname was something like Mariat.
I really like Jeff Beck’s cover.
Eve of Destruction- Performed by Barry McGuire and released in the summer of 1965.
Buttfly of Lurve. I first heard it in early 1966. I think the artist’s name was Bob Lind, but since I thought it was just an AM imitation of Dylan, I only heard it about 3 times and certainly never bought the 45.
It’s just called The Elusive Butterfly.
I remember all those songs.
You remember the Walter Brennan rap Old Rivers ?
1,3,and 4.
I just listened to number 5 and it sort of sounds familiar, but I don’t know if that’s because it’s similar to other songs of that time. I didn’t know the words at all.
@Brian1946 Paul Mauriat did the remake I think. That’s the version I’m most familiar with. There is a slower version out there that I assume is before Paul’s version.
I remember them all except for “Honey”.
I know and can hear them all in my head.
I remember them all. We used to joke that Honey was about his dog getting hit by a car.
Let’s not forget the epic cannibalism song Timothy
”...and I long to be with you, if I only I could.”
But you can! Here, just use this knife and you can be with her tonight!
My Love Is Blue? It’s just called Love Is Blue.
@flutherother A friend used to say the song “Seasons In The Sun” was about a vasectomy. I never heard that song the same way again.
^^I used to love that song.
Noooo @filmfann! You just ruined that song for me.
I remember them all…including key changes!
