Can Taylor Swift run for President this year?

Asked by filmfann (52486points) April 25th, 2024

Specifically, she won’t turn 35 until this December.
Can she be elected at 34 to begin her term after she turns 35?

No the minimum age for presidential candidates is 35.

I think they will make an exception for her. She really is the best candidate. Age won’t become an issue for her until the 2060 election year.

Yes. You have to be 35 to be eligible for the office, which she will be before certification and assuming office. There is no specific mention of campaigning in the Constitution, so there is nothing, constitutionally, to prevent her doing it. I think even if she were turning 35 on the day of swearing in it would be fine.

It would be a very interesting question for the courts whether swearing in could be delayed a few days or a week to allow the elected person to become eligible.

If she were elected, could she / would she still have time to make her music?

tinyfaery's avatar

I would prefer she keep making music. Thanks.

She’d be a great President and all the MAGA hats would crawl under their rocks.

Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song of hers that I know of.

I know this is in the social section, but please tell me that no one would even consider this! She has no political experience whatsoever and haven’t we learned enough from past experience? I know she’s super popular among young people, but the presidency should never just be a popularity contest. I’m appalled to think that anybody might be discussing this, outside of Fluther of course.

Please. Can she, please?

Don’t worry @LifeQuestioner we all know she’d make a dogshit president. This is just a constitutional question.
