I am considering a trip to a touristy part of Maine this summer. I told the relatives we are visiting that we would stay in a hotel so as not to burden them. They suggested some local hotels. I am also thinking about a VRBO rental or AirBnB. Do you have a preference? I’ve never used either.
I have friends that have second homes and they rented them out, using both sites but I don’t anything about the sites as far as being the renter goes.

Used both, VRBO more though for vacation. No issues so far.
I’ve read too many stories lately about owners of AirBnB hiding cameras in bedrooms and bathrooms. But I’m a little paranoid in general.
I prefer a spot in a campground for an RV. We don’t have one but I’m reading and shopping for a reasonable unit. I want a small trailer that is easily pulled by pickup truck. I do not do well in the best of hotels. I take my own sheets and towels and Clorox wipes. I can hardly endure it. Really.
I’ve done both; mainly AirBNB. It generally works out pretty well but my impression is if you have a problem, AirBnb isn’t that helpful. I think Air BnB is better in the States than abroad. I did ok with renting a house through VRBO in Paris in January. For Maine, I would look at properties in both.
