Have there been more jobs created recently than in the past few years, in the US?

Asked by jca2 (16892points) May 13th, 2024

A friend says that Biden is saying job creation is up, supposedly they are union jobs, good paying jobs. I hear on the radio that the jobs created recently are service level jobs, part time. I am googling it but there are all kinds of stats out there.

Being a cynic, I feel like of course Biden is going to say that job creation is up – he’s campaigning.

I googled the US Bureau of Labor Statistics and it looks like jobs are down but hopefully Biden isn’t lying (i say that with a wink).

Do you have info with stats and hopefully links?

The cynical part is when politicians take credit for upturns in the business cycle.

Mainstream economists don’t even know what causes the business cycle. If those economists don’t know, then how could Joe possibly know?

There’s a deeper issue of politics being a short-term endeavour. Politicians are about getting elected and reelected for their next term.

It seems to me that creating a sane and sustainable world, one that can tackle various long-term issues related to society and environment, can’t be based on “what can get me elected for my next 4 year term”.
