What was the last job you put off for weeks because you dreaded it and then it took only 15 minutes to do?

My car registration had not been renewed and because of the gap, I thought I would have to make an appointment at the DMV to renew it. I put it off but then decided to tackle it. It turned out I could renew it online even though there was a gap and I was able to print out a new one! Big relief.
What is your tale of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat?

Exactly the same job, about 4–5 months ago. Sometimes the online stuff really is better!
Oil change on my 2015 Subaru. It’s a quick job but I kept putting it off.because it was too cold/ too wet/too sunny/ too windy/ etc.
The weather was perfect yesterday and I could not come up with an excuse. (Also it was 3000 miles overdue.) So I just did it! Easy!
The whole process took about 40 minutes because I figured it would be interesting to have the oil tested at Blackstone Laboratories so I could see if it was truly used up. The oil collection process and preparing the sample for mailing took an additional 20 minutes.
I can’t wait for the results!
I’m sure my Subie is happy today.
Pile of papers on my kitchen counter.
Regreasing trailer bearings. It’s a messy but quick job.
I wish…. Cleaning my grandson’s room after he left for the summer…took over an hour.
He stays here during school days because I am homeschooling him.
@LuckyGuy Please report back to us on the results! It’ll be interesting…3000 miles overdue….
Organizing both guest rooms. My clutterbug husband trashes them every winter. One had 3 full bags of trash! (Just packaging, etc..nothing gross.)
@LuckyGuy Don’t be surprised if it’s just fine. Modern oil is usually good well past 3k miles. I typically change at 5k and feel even that is a little overkill.
Demo on a shower stall. Needing to shower was the driving force. ~~
@Blackwater_Park @smudges I use full synthetic and send in a sample every once in a while.
Subaru suggests 6000 mile change interval but my testing always showed the oil was still good so I moved it to 7000 miles. This time I changed the oil at 10,600 miles. It will be fun to see the results.
I’ll let you know. It takes about a week.
My PlayStation 3 stopped reading discs a couple of months ago. I didn’t take it to a shop because I was too lazy and didn’t think there would be one nearby, but turns out, there’s one a block away, yay.
Anything to do with cleaning, I procrastinate, and then when I actually do it, it wasn’t so bad.
I’ll put off doing something, and waste time on social media to keep putting it off, and so I fuck around and keep putting it off. What helps is if I make a time for myself, like “at 12 noon, you’re going to shut the computer off, get up, take a shower and do ________.” So then I can indulge myself for a bit but when it’s time to stop, it’s time to stop.
My gutters need some serious attention, maybe later this week….
@Blackwater_Park – Do it! We didn’t do ours this autumn and had to pull out growing dandelions in the spring.
Like @jca2 , anything cleaning related causes procrastination. I dislike doing it, we can afford to have someone do it, then I feel guilty about not doing it myself. Fun times.
Currently, I’m procrastinating about switching purses. I don’t know why. It won’t take long,, but here I am not doing it.
I quit carrying a purse in 2016. I put my necessities in my cell phone wallet case (debit cards, insurance cards etc.) It is such a relief!
Throwing most of my cardboard boxes in the recycling bin. Only took 3 trips to get rid of most of them.
God. I would give anything for this town to recycle.
@tedibear Well, I have tiny maple trees growing in mine right now
Followup on my Subaru oil change. Here is the summary from Blackstone Labs:
“It doesn’t look like this Subaru had any trouble with the 10,690-mile run. Metals bumped up slightly, but they look totally fine on a ppm-per-mile basis, so it doesn’t seem that internal parts struggled.
The one item that we want to point out is silicon, which might be just a tad elevated at 42 ppm. This could show dirt, so check over air filtration to ensure everything is sealed up tight. The flashpoint shows a trace of fuel, which is harmless and can be attributed to operational factors.
The TBN is okay at 3.3.
You could run up to 12,000 miles next service.”
They attach the full analysis which I can send if anyone is interested.
“You could run up to 12,000 miles next service.”
Good to hear; thanks for letting us know!
@LuckyGuy Great analysis. How many total miles are on that engine? I have heard Subie’s are notorious for engine mid life crisis.
@LuckyGuy….you thought they were talking dirty to you, didn’t you! :)
@Forever_Free The engine is at 98,775 miles. I had the serpentine belt changed and changed the antifreeze. I should have sent that in. I suspect it was still good.
